One day I won't be surprised by how insane things get on this board.

I wonder how Dame feels about zero all NBA votes. Not a bad motivator

I know the EPL season has wrapped but I keep looking at the title of this thread and wondering why we care about a game between Wolves and Man C.

In the last 2 games, Jrue has been playing stellar defense and offense. Beginning to seriously think that we made a mistake trading him away.

You're first beginning to think that now?
The Buck's front office does it and actually a lot of NBA front offices do it. But it seems like they run teams with the same mentality or from the same perspective that an average fan would.
For instance someone might say, Rilamann, you were all for the Jrue for Dame trade back in September.
I was, but I also only watched 2 or 3 Blazers games a year. When it came to Dame I saw the cool Logo 3's and I saw Dame win the 3pt shootout at all star weekend back in 2023. So I was like yeah, I like it. I believed the hype.
Now pay me Jon Horst's salary and I promise you, I would have watched and dissected every game that Dame played in over the past 5 or 6 years before I would have pulled any trigger on a Dame for Jrue trade.
And had I done that, not a chance in hell I would have traded Jrue for Dame, even straight up.
After watching Dame play basketball 2-3 times a week over the course of about 7 months. I find it hard to believe that anyone who knows basketball and has extensively watched Jrue Holiday play basketball and has extensively watched Damian Lillard play basketball, would come to the conclusion that Dame is the better basketball player.
I get it, Jrue doesn't hit cool Logo 3's like Dame and Jrue isn't going to win any 3pt shootouts at all star weekend.
But Jrue Holiday does so many more things that help you win actual basketball games than Dame does.
Jon Horst didn't do his homework. Because Jon Horst is nothing more than a fan like you or I. Only difference is he knows the right people.

Not sure I've seen a coach have such a negative influence on two games. Carlisle is awful. He blew the first game and now he is emptying bench down by 11 when they don't want to blow out.
I don't watch enough pacers, but Ben Sheppard looks useless. Why does he get so many minutes and why do they put him on Tatum? Tatum playing awful until he was guarding him.

I question Dame too but I will never question the trade. Jrue could not continue in that role here. Idk what’s going to happen for us going forward or Boston, but we weren’t winning anything if we kept that team together.

Jrue's been a great two way role player since halfway through the Cavs series. Credit to him for finally making some shots with some consistency.

I still wouldn't have done the trade knowing what kind of player Dame actually is after watching him play basketball for 7 months.
But it's a valid argument if you say that we wouldn't have won anything had we stood pat and kept Jrue. We probably wouldn't have.
What killed the Bucks and slammed the door shut on them being a contender in the Giannis era was Middleton pretty much falling apart after he turned 30.
When Middleton was still a legit #2 guy behind Giannis, Jrue was perfect as the #3 guy. Jrue might be the best #3 guy in NBA history. The guy is about to make a habit of helping contenders get over the championship hump.
But when Middleton was either out of the lineup or hobbled (which is a lot) it forced Jrue into more of a scoring role that he's not really designed for. If Middleton could have remained the guy he was in 2021 for 2-3 more years, the Bucks would have probably had a hell of a run with Jrue.

You don’t understand. He got his ass kicked by Jimmy Butler in games 4 and 5 last year. That defined his entire career and capabilities, even more so since Giannis and Khris were on the court with him.

Lol NBA fans love doing that.
However, I still think it was the right trade.

If you put the right young guys around Jrue/Khris/Giannis you could win another title. We're going to have to do that NOW with Dame/Khris/Giannis to win another title. We just have fewer assets to do it with.

Re: Around The League - Wolves v Mav’s and C’s v Indy
Appreciated all the different views.
Yet after watching Dame this whole season and Jrue recently, I would want to keep Jrue and not Dame.
I think Dame today, has long distance shots and little else. He rarely drives except to draw a foul which will happen even less frequently than it did this year. He is extremely weak on defense which is a huge weakness given that he s on the court for 79 percent if the game; Nehm has said the same thing, although a bit more politely. Jrue was not a great creator on offense but Dame is decidedly worse on that dimension also.
I know it is water under the bridge but these decisions have hurt us badly this year. And who knows what next season will bring.

I have a sneaking suspicion that if you put Dame in place of Jrue on this Celtics roster that he’d be crushing souls. But what do I know.

I mean, what defined his career with the Bucks was his .476 TS% in the playoffs. He was so rarely stellar on offense that we got rid of him.

Wish there was a multiversal hole I could fall into so I could see the Jruthers' forum reactions to another first round loss, looking at the prospect of re-signing Grayson and Jrue for $55 million a year, considering Giannis trades because he hasn't re-signed and was hurt for another first round loss, all while Adrian Griffin is still sitting and drooling on the sideline wondering why his players, the fans, and the opposing teams haven't shown up for their games for 2 rounds.

It’s really that simple. I don’t think people understand how hard it was to overcome that to win it all. The guy getting the 2nd or 3rd most shots couldn’t hit most of them no matter how open or where he shot them from. If we could’ve found a guy who could let Jrue be the 4th/5th option on offense, then hell yea we would’ve been better off.
But the roster was constructed the same way it is now, 3 top dogs with the rest being play finishers. We couldn’t keep him in that role and we really didn’t have a way to move him down. The Celtics were able to plug him into that role after all their moves. It was obvious he was going to thrive there.
