Pistons Willing To Buy Out Rest Of Monty Williams' Contract

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Fri May 24, 2024 5:48 am

Tom Gores is willing to "eat" the rest of Monty Williams' contract, sources told James L. Edwards III and Shams Charania of The Athletic.

Williams, who was hired last summer, has around $60 million left on his deal.

Trajan Langdon, newly hired as the team's president of basketball operations, will have the final say on Williams' future in Detroit.

I haven't paid close attention to Detroit, because if you aren't a Pistons fan, why would you?

That said, is there some massive irreconcilable difference between Williams and the players? Otherwise why bother? No coach is going to come in and move the needle. Williams may not be elite, but you aren't going to get an elite coach to come anyway. You aren't a coach swap away from being in a different place unless the team just hates him and the locker room is completely F'd.

Williams is not the problem in Detroit. Lose Weaver and move the talent that doesn't fit for talent that does.

Axe the coach and add 2 years on your own contract. It’s either them or you. Let them take blame!
