Game 2 adjustments

Post#1 » by guest81 » Thu May 23, 2024 6:18 pm

Here are a few adjustments I'd like to see the Wolves impose for the next game

1. Getting guys more rest. Ant and Conley more specifically.

Ant has just been bad at the end of quarters. Whatever the reason it doesn't matter. I think you could get him an extra 5ish minutes of rest by sitting him at the ends of quarters 1-3

Conley also is looking hurt and gassed. I wouldn't mind giving the bench a little more run. If Dallas is going to go 10 deep, I think you can give a guy like Jmac or Morris a little bit of a run.

2. Blitz those pick and rolls and get the ball out of Luka and Kyries hands more.

I think the Wolves went in trying to shut all the other guys off and let the 2 beat them, but I think they went a little too extreme. There's a happy middle where your long and fast enough to get back on Dallas's shooters and make them make shots.

3. Keep shooting 3's

I actually think a lot of those 3's were good open shots. KAT missed a lot of open ones he makes, same with Naz and even Ant.

4. Shorter leash on NAW.

I love NAW. When's he's on he's a game changer, but when's he's off he can almost cost you a game. I think you know pretty early on if NAW has it or not. If he doesn't, he usually doesn't get it going later. Go deeper into your bench if he doesn't have it

ESPN has an article on Finch fired up in film session. Hopefully Wolves will clean things up and get a win. I already posted some suggestion elsewhere for discussion so won't repeat them here.

Ant can't guard kyrie or Luka. I'd let Conley guard kyrie and accept that he gets torched. Luka needs to be guarded by a rotation of guys each quarter. If it's Jaden all game he'll get torched. Give him different looks every few possessions.

You can't play Kyle this series period. The way we play defense is we sag off the non shooting perimeter player of the opposing team. We sell out hard and use that guy to pack the paint. This is how we beat the clippers and OKC by completely ignoring Westbrook/Giddy and having 2-3 guys cutting off driving lanes. You already have Gobert, you can't have another non shooter on the court against the Mavs.

You can't play drop against Luka. If it's Gafford on the court you have to blitz him. Gafford is a good finisher but he's not a great decision maker so as long as help comes fast he'll always try to dunk over them, even if it's contested. Lively is a great decision maker and passer out of the post so I wouldn't blitz if hes setting the screen.

Ant needs to hunt Luka on offense. Yesterday, nobody made Luka work and so he had a ton of energy on offense. Luka is a good defender when locked in, but ant should be faster. DJJ will fight over screens but you gotta try to rescreen until you can get that matchup. If you can't you're accepting both Luka and Kyrie torching you.

Few things for me.
Make Luka and Kyrie work harder.
Don't give too much offensive rebound.
Move the ball faster. 1st game, ANT was slow decision making and Mike was far from his usual level.
Keep shooting 3 and give the ball inside only when Rudy can get easy buckets.
Avoid TO and stupid decision at clutch time.
For the mindset, we have to be hungry and play as an underdog.

Regular season mean nothing but last 2 months of the regular season, Dallas was the best team in NBA and got the best defense, even better than ours. So based on that fact, they are more favorite than us. Go Wolves!

DAL is certainly the favorite now after the Wolves loss a very winnable game one. I don't watch a lot of DAL but think they played very well, however, I think game 1 was DAL's best aside from missing a couple open 3s. Both Kyrie and Luka got what they want. Now, I am sure our unbiased DAL fans will tell me to expect 70 pts from Luka and 60 for Kyrie.

The loss was absolutely on the wolves. While neither team played their best game, the wolves just had too many mistakes. Dal stars played well overall but the wolves had poor defense, poor star play, and weren't aggressive on offense. Yet, they still had an opportunity to win.

Wolves appear to be the better team and should prevail BUT can they clean up the issues from game 1?? First, get rid of drop coverage as a steady diet. Secondly, get Kat and Ant some post up opportunities on PJ and Kyrie.

I felt the wolves missed a great opportunity to get Kyrie in foul trouble after his early first foul. Do not put Ant of Kyrie for the entire game, especially with him talking fatigue.

Don't forget, like Rudy, Ant just had a baby as well too didn't he? Could be a factor but still have to perform if you play.

Ant has also been in a bit of an offensive slump since the last few Den games as well. Has to find a way to come out of it.

It seems like ever since he had that hard fall in the Denver series he hasn't been the same
