Re: OT The Nerdy stuff Thread
I started watching Kaiju No. 8 and...yeah, this is REALLY good. It feels like Attack on Titan if the Titans were Kaiju, and Eren's powers were given to a grown adult instead of reaching their peak while he's still an angry emo teenager.
Granted, that's off about 5 episodes introducing the world and powers. The story can go a million different directions that make it great or bad. But the premise and initial setup took me back to AoT's incredibly promising first season, but with "past your prime" jokes replacing edgy teenage angst.

Re: OT The Nerdy stuff Thread
I saw a spoiler image for JJK (I stopped at the Culling Games mind you all), and it was pretty epic but also awfully upsetting. It makes me want to catch up on the manga, but I'll be pissed if it was just really good fan art...and I don't want it confirmed outright because it'll absolutely shape how I read everything leading up to it.
So fml...I should know better then to drop "next big thing" mangas to wait for the anime versions.

Even then, what they actually say is pretty vague
I believe Oden's words are "More than 20 years from now, young, strong pirates will come flooding into the New World. If I die, they're the ones who will take down Kaido"
And Kaido I don't think had much specific information, I don't think he expected JoyBoy to be real, he just thought the only person who'd actually be able to beat him would have to be this mythic figure, and that's his determination of who JoyBoy is, just whoever's strong enough to beat him
Again, it's gonna entirely depend on what's actually on Laugh Tale, but I think you can pretty easily compartmentalize this part as being the general idea that 20 years in the future would be a time of change (which isn't too specific), and that someone, somewhere would be strong enough to take down Kaido. It's also not too much of a stretch to say that 20 years is just a guess, that in the pirate world, every 20-ish years there's been major power changes, like 20 years before the story Rocks was big and then he goes down to Roger, who disbands his crew and is executed leading to the Yonko taking over, it's not too much of a stretch to say the next wave is coming in 20 years. Plus, they don't specify Kaido will be defeated in 20 years, just that the person to beat him will be around then. Like, that'd still be true if Luffy were a year younger and set out to sea a year later, he wouldn't've beat Kaido at the same exact time, but he still would've gotten there within that time span
Maybe that's just copium from me though. We'll see.

It kinda devolves into standard Shonen stuff after a bit, but it is pretty good
I think the manga is in the ending stage at this point, a little over 100 chapters in, but I don't think it needs much more than that.

Yeah, it's definitely all cryptic so you might be right. The only specific bit was Toki definitely mentioned 9 people, but to this day, I don't think anyone has figured out which of the Wano raiders counted toward that prediction.
I've pretty much dragged back to "they know something's coming" but my cope is to figure out ways that it won't just be some "it was destined and preordained."

Damn, that's a little disheartening. But it's understandable, and if you say "pretty good," that's good enough to take me along for the ride. The characters are just so easy to like.

Well that's easy
That part of the prophecy is only about Orochi, and it's the 9 Red Scabbards. Actually, this kinda proves the idea they don't actually know the future, cause Kanjuro is a traitor and fought against them, so if she were making a prophecy, she'd say 8 instead of 9. She was just making it up as she went, at least that's my interpretation. She didn't know for sure the rest of the 9 would survive or that they'd make it back to fight, she just knew some would, and wanted to give the people something to hope for cause she knew at least some of them would make it back.

I disagree that it's the 9 Scabbards, even though they make a good bit of sense. Toki says something along the lines of, "The Dawn is coming, and it will cast 9 shadows." I interpret this as Luffy and the Strawhats because the Dawn image goes beyond Wano.
I'd point to Kanjuro and the lack of a "Joyboy" up top as a evidence she wasn't talking about the Scabbards. But I completely understand why people go with the scabbards.
But that goes to show how cryptic prophecies are. There's a specific number, the events of Wano are past, and there's still room to debate the prophecy.

JJK for some reason is the most spoiled series that I've ever recalled reading/watching. Like I literally logged in to Facebook to check messages and the first post to appear was the massive spoiler for the new chapter. Fans do not care they will spoil everything before the official release.

Kaiju 8 is pretty good, I lost track of the manga after awhile due to the publishing schedule.

Re: OT The Nerdy stuff Thread
Started my X-Men binge.
I think the show does a great show of showing the cool ways Cyclops can use his powers, but he's still kinda corny haha. End of episode 2 really laid some interesting storylines out. Only 10 episodes in this season smh...story feels like it's moving really fast.

Okay so I can't lie. Xmen '97...episodes 1 - 4. Meh. Felt like a procedural, moved too quickly. A little like early Agents of Shield and not in a good way.
But HOT DAMN, episode 5!!!!!!!!! Worth it! I finished it and my only thought was that the Xmen can save Marvel from its movie slump. They better not eff it up though.

Re: OT The Nerdy stuff Thread
I started reading Sakamoto Days cause I hear good stuff about it and I know there's an anime adaptation this year
It's pretty fun, it's sort of a cross between John Wick and Spy x Family with a touch of Hunter x Hunter at least in terms of artwork. Nothing too deep so far, just a really solidly fun ride.

Sakamoto Days is awesome I concur
I hope the anime studio does it justice. I saw some fans expressing concern that this studio may not be able to adapt a lot of the dynamic paneling properly from the manga

Yeah and that kinda killed momentum for that series. It still makes bank but the quality drop off between seasons definitely hurt the series popularity.
This is why I'm hoping that Jump doesn't just let any old rinky dink studio adapt Kagurabachi. I want ufotable for that

Very cool to see guys like show up in X-men 97. Still think the dialogue is a bit weak and story rushed, but man, some of the action scenes are so good...
To be fair, it might be me not knowing enough about the original series.
And just as I say that,
