ATL sends: Clint Capela, Dejounte Murray
ATL gets: Wendell Carter, Jerami Grant, ORL 25 frp (top 8 protected)
Why: Younger, more versatile C on a fantastic deal, vet high-scoring F, overall salary shed and a frp
POR sends: Ayton, Jerami Grant, #14
POR gets: Clint Capela, Anthony Black, Cole Anthony, #18
Why: Tremendous financial flexibility, an expiring defensive-minded vet C, 2 complementary young guard prospects, small slide back in this year's draft (POR also has #7). POR also can discuss moving Brogdon and/or Simons with coverage in place. GM's toy box.
ORL sends: Wendell Carter, Cole Anthony, Anthony Black, ORL 25 frp, #18
ORL gets: Ayton, Dejounte Murray, #14
Why: ORL bets big on Mosely getting thru to Ayton as a defensive powerhouse, Murray is a perfect PG next to Suggs, move up 4 spots
My math is based on POR getting lots of flexibility for a dynamic rebuild. Ayton, despite numbers, has been a fail in POR. His upside is enticing (if ATL wants him, ORL happily keeps WCJ) but my math has ORL's absorption of his salary a bonus to POR and ATL gets similar help with a much less expensive, much younger, and much more offensively versatile Carter. IF ATL goes with Sarr, WCJ could ultimately support him as a big, physical 4 as well as Center until he's ready...but ATL will have a quality starter regardless. ORL gets the only "available" guard out there that improves their offense significantly and maybe even improves their already formidable defense at the same time.

I’m ok with this as long as Anthony can be sent elsewhere.

I don't see a good/valid reason here for Portland. It does nothing to solve the current issues nor does it create a clear path for improvement.
Financial flexibility is nice, but it's not a needle mover...
#14 > #18
Ayton > Capela for the Blazers. Ayton is young enough to fit in the youth movement & his contract expires after 2 seasons. Better to keep him & let it play out.
Grant > Black & Anthony for the Blazers. Grant is the only competent forward on the team. Why trade him for two additional guards who will be stuck on the bench?

problem is, Ayton was never a good defensive player to begin with. i would pull Ayton out of it. We really only want Murray anyways. if Atlanta needs to move Capela, take him

I don't know if you read the fine print but I figure if Mose can get through to guys like Fultz and Anthony, he might really be able to do some damage with a physical marvel like Ayton. This is where having a cool, articulate "player's coach" pays off big.
Honestly, I'd rather try to take a shot at Mosely reconstructing a much less expensive physical marvel, Jalen Duren, who is also not a good defender, if there was a way. Ayton's contract and history of being uncooperative certainly are worrisome. Taking him on is a BIG bet, but that uncertainty was part of the "assets" ORL was offering.
JoeNO, on the other hand, Murray and Paolo are beyond close...there is no attitude issue with DJM beyond being a fierce competitor like Butler. His fire is positive. The "beef" crap belongs on TikTok, not here - where we, presumably talk hoops.

Re: ATL/POR/ORL
Hawks already have Onyeka Okongwu locked up for 4 years who's even younger than Carter so I don't see them wanting or needing Carter if they took Sarr. And I would not be interested at all in Grant's contract. I would not want to pay him 30m+ into his 30s.

Re: ATL/POR/ORL
Id pass. No reason for the Magic to take on Ayton's contract.
If the Hawks want Grant, they should be offering Hunter+ one of the 1sts the Magic give them.
I also wouldnt move Black for Murray even though Im not that high on Black. A Murray to Orlando trade has the potential to blow up in the Magic's face if Murray cant get along with the players and coaching staff.

Re: ATL/POR/ORL
For Portland the value looks very good but the fit is terrible. Might be worth it for the value win but would need several more deals to rebalance roster.
For Orlando the value looks very poor. I don't see WCJ as a significant win over Capella and Grant is way down from Murray.
It balances out to a reasonable deal for Orlando, IMO overpaying for Ayton but getting Murray very cheap.

Re: ATL/POR/ORL
I don’t like it at all for Portland. Mostly feels like a salary dump and downgrading a pick to do it. I’d rather keep Ayton than trade him for a likely rental of Clint Capella. Clint doesn’t fit this team and will likely pack his bags in 1 year. From there we are using Grant to add TWO more guards and downgrading our draft pick. I mentioned being fine with Black and Cole on another thread, but that was with picks coming to Portland and the Blazers opening up more minutes at guard positions by sending out both Brogdon and Simons. Obviously the team can make a follow up trade, but teams will look at the situation and try to leverage that Portland has too many guards. Seriously, Scoot, Sharpe, Brogdon, Simons, Banton, Black, and Cole? 8 guards that either want minutes because they were earned or need minutes for development. Teams will see the desperation and be turning to Portland for bargains. Blazers are better off keeping Ayton, keeping 14, sending Grant and/or Simons out for picks and/or savings, sending Brogdon out mostly for savings.

I agree on Mosely working his "magic" with someone else other than a $35mil/yr center that seems allergic to defense most times.
