Joe Tsai Says Nets Are 'At A Crossroads', Will Take 'Long-Term Approach'

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Sat May 25, 2024 5:42 pm

Brooklyn Nets governor Joe Tsai owned that his team didn't perform as hoped for last season. Tsai also said, "In New York, the Brooklyn Nets is at a crossroads in a way."

Tsai went on to explain that the Nets are trying to build a team that can compete long-term. That's guiding decision-making instead of short-term thinking designed around winning immediately.

"We didn’t do as well as we expected last season. We didn’t make the playoffs," Tsai said. "But we hope to revamp the team and make sure that we can compete in the long run… There’s a difference between I want to win, versus I want to build a winning mentality and culture that’s sustainable. Those two are very different things. If you just want to be win-now you could ruin your future by trading away all of your assets, but I think what I want to do with the Brooklyn Nets is take a longer-term approach and build a winning sustainable culture"

when you have no draft pick and no real good players that is a crossroads haha the way you start is trade bridges and claxton to get some picks and start a slow rebuild other then that they have no hope

Nets are at a crossroads because they completely mis-managed their roster when their was not roster cohesion and their coaching carousel.

Their 3 HOF players ( Harden, Kyrie, Durant ) were transformed into minimal returns :

8 players ( majority not on the roster ) = Spencer Dinwiddie, Dorian FS, Cam Johnson, Mikal Bridges, Jae Crowder, Ben Simmons, Seth Curry, Andre Drummond'

7 first round picks ( some with protections )

2 second round picks

In contrast -- OKC managed to swindle 5 first round picks ( yes FIVE ) & 2 first round pick swaps ( & SGA!!! ) for Paul George alone!!

Sean Marks truly fumbled his assets -- and his coaching staff ( 6 coaching changes in 4 seasons!!! ).

Ultimately -- if the Nets want long term success, they need to follow the blueprints of 3 franchises : GSW, Miami, Spurs ( coaching continuity, quality draft, Front office continuity and roster continuity ).

Agreed with all of that except the part about front office continuity. Marks has got to go, the results of most of his major personel and coaching moves have been an absolute dumpster fire. It's an mystery to me how he's hoodwinked Tsai into keeping him in power this many years after all of the failure and disappointment.

The Nets need a new regime in place for a rebuild. The continuity part comes after you hire the right people and build a winning foundation.
