Mavs/Jazz draft night

Post#1 » by Astaluego » Sun May 26, 2024 8:26 am

MAVS
In:#32
Out:Dallas 25(top5 prot)/THJ/58

Immediately after transmitting the selection to the Knicks, they send the FRP of the 25th to eliminate THJ's salary and obtain a TPE of 16 million, while they enter the Draft...
Draft without big stars a priori, but deep in terms of players role, in my opinion

(I could see Nico selecting a guy like Justin Edwards or R.Dunn...if he's still there)

JAZZ
In:Dallas 25/THJ/58
Out:#32

The Jazz in get-asset mode, eat up THJ's salary (who could easily and due to his expiration, veteran, shooting, still bring an SRP at the deadline)
Already have 2 picks in the 1st round and won't be able to develop as much rookie, They get another lightly protected Draft 25 FRP that could bring great advantages (injuries happen and as an example the Mavs missed the Playoffs last year)

The 58 little sweetener could be used for a player for the H league

Jazz have their cap space ear marked for Markannen. However if we moved Lauri in a trade we might be willing to sell cap space. Not sure this is enough payment for 16 mil of space or not, especially with so many teams looking to dodge tax issues. But, maybe as a concept it would be ok.

But, I just think much more likely that the Jazz need that cap room for a renegotiate and extend.
"Thibs called back and wanted more picks," said Jorge Sedano. "And Pat Riley, literally, I was told, called him a mother-bleeper and hung up the phone."

I would do this as a jazz fan.

Wouldn't Mavs be better off using TOR 2nd to dump THJ? TOR fans seem to accept it.

I missed that...yes it is surely a better value...but I would like us to participate in some way in this Draft...I think it is quite deep

We can't do this and renegotiate and extend Lauri
