Ten minutes per year I suppose is fair lol.
Being serious though this guy fits right in the middle of the group I posted above - guys with size and versatility, also being a plus on one side of the ball with a shot to be decent or better on the other side.
I like the mold this guy is in for this team a lot right now.
This is one I read one him awhile back. It’s a bit wordy but gives a good feel:
https://www.noceilingsnba.com/p/anton-watson-is-this-years-skeletonEdit: I hate to describe it this way but he’s got a very Spurs-ian quality. Sort of casual when he shoots, that sort of “whoops I just swished a little wide open shot again” vibe this team could use a little more of.
Yeah Watson is interesting. He's old. Good but not great size. Athleticism is just okay.
He's good at everything on a basketball floor but not great at anything.
However, what stands out to me about Watson p he just knows how to play. He has a very mature game. By that I mean, he plays within himself. Doesn't force things. Doesn't bite on fakes, doesn't move when he sets screens, doesn't make dumb passes, doesn't take dumb shots, knows where to be on the floor - knows when to cut, when to set screens, when to crash the boards, when to rotate on D, etc. Doesn't make mistakes, has high IQ, good fundamentals.
Kind of fits a similar mold to guys like Larry Nance Jr and Kyle Anderson.
But just having that mature game, making the right basketball play, not making mistakes, knowing where to be and when to be there all the time, high IQ, unselfish team play, ball mover..that describes Kornet and what has made Kornet so effective this season.
Watson is a really good defender - that's probably his best attribute (other than the stuff I just mentioned about his "mature game" ). Doesn't get a ton of steals/blocks. But is just a good positional defender. Contains his man, makes it hard for his man to score, makes good contests, so guys. have a hard time scoring on him..can slide his feet to stay with quicker guys..can switch onto bigs. Defensively he's kind of like Tillman and Horford.
Mature game - which makes since, since he's 23 and played 5 yrs of college basketball. Other guys who played 4 or 5 yrs of college ball: Pritchard, Hauser, Kornet.
Plus, the way Watson carries himself on the court and off. He acts like a professional. Doesn't seek the spotlight. Nothing flashy about his game. He's not whining to the refs. He's not talking trash to opponents. He just goes out there, competes and goes home.
There seems to be a lot of stuff there that could make Brad and others in our org like him..
