One on one: Carter vs Leonard, who u got?

Post#1 » by Snappycoocoo » Mon May 27, 2024 6:05 am

In a one on one game who u got Carter or Leonard?

In their prime of coarse.

Key difference to me is Carter missed the shot vs 76ers. Leonard made the shot against them in the playoffs.

Carter definitely more athletic but I think Leonard would be a mismatch for Carter down low. Leonard has thunder thighs and is a lot stronger. Carter still has a great back down game though

Prime Kawhi might be the last guy in the history of the league prime Vince wants to see in a 1v1. He has basically no advantage because he's not getting a head of steam to blow by Kawhi and dunk on him. Carter would be ground down and broken. Only way Carter wins is if he starts with the ball, the game is to 3, and he hits 3 heavily contested mid range jumpers in a row.

One of my hottest takes is Kawhi might be the best one-on-one player... ever?

I'm sure it would crack under scrutiny and there would be some people who could beat him, but he would probably beat the most people.

It wouldn't be flashy, but I think he could stop most people and score on most people.

VC wouldn't stand a chance.

Has to be Kawhi because of the 2 way advantage. Kawhi would just body him.

Vince has no advantages in this 1v1 lol it’s just an unfair matchup in all aspects. The most athletic player of all time prime Lebron was scared of Kawhi’s defence

Id rather see prime Carter vs prime Kobe in a 1v1

Kawhi was able to beat prime LeBron in Miami. Vince couldn't even hold a candle to prime Kobe.

I have more confidence in Kawhi stopping Vince occasionally than I do Vince stopping Kawhi.

I picked Carter because he's got the ability to blow by with athleticism, but I can also see the argument for Kawhi.

Kawhi's better offensively and defensively. not sure what there is to debate here.

Carters defense wouldn’t but up to par. We all saw Latrell Sprewell hit contested shots in his face the first playoff series. Kawhi would cook him badly.

Kawhi and it's not even close.

Prime and healthy Kawhi is a legit MVP caliber player and arguably a top 15-20 player of all-time in my opinion. His only issue has been his health which has hurt his overall legacy. He has incredible size, strength, great footwork, is an elite shooter, and an elite defender.

Prime and healthy VC was a top 10 player in the league and not close to Kawhi's offensive efficiency or his defensive versatility.

This is a one on one game. Those types of games match up perfectly with Kawhi’s strengths. Prime Kawhi is is probably the best iso wing defender of all-time. He regularly snatched dribbles of good NBA wings. Kawhi is also incredibly good at using bully ball to get to his spots and score in iso. Kawhi’s game is tailor made for one on one play. He is a terrible matchup for Vince. Vince has a skill advantage but that goes away in a 1 on 1 setting.

Cool story. I did watch them both play though. Kawhi is better on both ends. His offense sometimes gets downplayed because he is possibly the best wing defender of all time, but at his peak he was better than Vince offensively at Vince's peak. Even if Vince jumps very high or looks smoother dribbling the basketball. Kawhi puts it in the net more often, which is the point. Like, kawhi was a 44% 3 point shooter at his peak. Vince was around 40%. Kawhi was a better shooter from basically every distance at his peak. He's was just better, as much as we all loved watching Vince yam on guys when we were younger.

Kawhi gets picked before Vince in a 5 on 5 game too. There is no reason to pick Vince over Kawhi for anything other than an all star game, assuming injuries aren't a concern.

Prime Kawhi would body most any player 1 on 1. How are you scoring on him??? One of the greatest defenders to ever exist lol. And he has the strength, footwork and shooting ability to get you on the other end. No need for flash when he's just breaking you down.

And Prime Duncan is like a post version of that.

Kawhi is stronger, rebounds better (assuming you allow for rebounds and it's not just shot and out), plays miles better defense, and probably has the more well rounded game, including shooting better from 3. Not sure it's really much of a contest.

This is the take. There really doesn't have to be any further discussion.
