If Fotis still feels as strongly about Grant as he did with Hartenstein through his whole career, he might be worth a look. Lol
Yes, Grant has always been a great cheap player to have in your roster. He played amazing defense in regular season, among with efficient clutch scoring and controlling the pace. His style even when I scouted him predraft ... I was like a Euro Point Guard ... Head up, great court vision, size, picking his spots on offense, setting up teammates to score, in control with flares of great offensive game... Noonee remembers that Jerian Grant was a MVP and an NBA Summer League Champion with the Bulls. I knew I was right about him from that moment. He has the rare "Kyle Lowry switch", he can switch from a pure point guard to a scorer, plus he defends well.
All Euroleague players are in the league they belong in. Their last 2 MVPs came over, and were below replacement level. Grant can't even score in that league with no defense.
Dude NBA is a far superior League overall when it comes to star players ... when it comes to role players and backups, Euroleague is loaded with enough talent.
Now let me tell you why I have a superior eye talent evaluating skill than most of NBA scouts who is their job...
1st of all I have more data than most US scouts. My age (45) is ideal for a scout. Its like I have read 2 huge 40 year books since the late 80s... the NBA Book and the Euro Book. So in my mind there are more winning teams, players, role players, body types, coaches, what kind of players needed and match in a team to work properly.
2nd I have played the game as point guard. The only reason I never became pro is that I was 5'11 and decided that I must not risk my future to chase a pro basketball career on 2nd Greek division team, since my family could not afford to feed me till I make it. So I decided and found a work that still feeds me and my family. My passion for basketball never stopped, watching Giannis playing 6-7 minutes live at 03:00 am is proof of that.
So, I have the "tools" and more "data" to evaluate better than most. For example my Haliburton predraft scout was "He reminds me of Reggie Miller" - all star potential. (Baddy Chuck can check it.)
So I am someone that gives analysts like yourself 4-5 names to inform me their analytic stats so I can figure out who is better. This is what most teams are missing (Bucks included) ... The scout job, or GM job, call it whatever IS a superior skill and cannot be taught. Analysts are usefull but cannot build a roster, they don't know how to solve the puzzle of winning roster construction.
The way you downplayed the Euroleague just triggered me. So many dumb real GMs out there signing and drafting alot of players worse than alot of Euroleague players. Roster spots from 9-15 are easily comparable with Euroleague Players.
PS I know alot here are over 40 years old this is why I like posting here and respect their opinion.
