His shot looks so effortless. Saw someone else already compare him to Portis, I see that but also Naz Reid and Christian Wood.
The other thing I like about Smith that's always difficult to explain is his just seems really fluid in his motions. For a 6'11" guy he just moves real well. A lot of big guys kind of look awkward when they move, but unless you're telling me he's 6'11" I feel like he just moves like a normal sized person. Feel like this is an advantage when big man have agility and are fluid in their movements.
Getting close to locking him in as my top preference at 11
Dream scenario would be a tradedown with the Pelicans where we can get Smith at 17 plus another player at 21.

I like Naz as a comp but it will take Smith time to get there. As he fills in I think he could play C too.
I think AK will make a win now pick if he keeps the pick and Smith is a future pick.
I like the trade for another pick and go for a guy like Smith

Who are the win now prospects that could be available at 11?

Now they get through high school/AAU ball, stop in at a university for a quick cup of coffee, and then it's on to the pro's, and millions of dollars.
I understand why it's good for the players to be able to make money earlier, but I don't think it's good for the game at all.

It's also diluted the quality of NCAA basketball. But there's no turning back.

I thought they were getting ready to let high school kids back in soon, am I misremembering?

It is an interesting point but I think that while rooks are rawer, the vets are playing longer and we have the g-league to develop guys now.

You're right, but fortunately, I think that issue got tabled for awhile.

Mindcrime wrote:Smith is actually pretty intriguing prospect - has size at 6'11, ok/good athlete, nice shooting mechanics from outside - that's nigtmare to guard in general. The main problem(that is totaly fixable) in his shooting is the amount of time he spends stoping, setting his feet in the right position, hesitating for half a second and the releasing the ball.
If he was 6'7 we might have considered him

The main, main problem based on the scouting reports I’ve read is that he is a bad and disinterested defender.

In this day and age 3 years is probably asking too much. I do think it should be raised to 20. Let these kids have a minimum of 2 years in college. They already can get NIL money. It’s a joke when someone like Bronny is going to the NBA when he couldn’t even average 5ppg in college.
