https://lite.cnn.com/2024/05/27/us/bill-walton-death/index.html

From the season finale broadcast of one of the Darius Miles seasons, the "dancing on the tables" game blowout of The Suns...

Bill: The Clippers are surging towards the playoffs!
Ralph: Bill, The Clippers were mathematically eliminated weeks ago...
Bill: What about an at-large berth?

RIP. He and Ralph brought so much fun to some dark years for the Clippers.

Crushed right now. Brought me a ton of joy with Ralph--with anyone he interacted with.

Saw him at more than one Dead show and can say that he was exactly the person we heard and loved on TV and the radio.

He was such a great ballplayer. Says a lot that I'll miss and remember him for so much more. I know he's listening to the river and singing sweet songs now. RIP friend.

this one really hits close to home. Walton was essentially the first player I ever learned about- at the Ann Arbor Public Library they had those old "NBA Season Guide" books and I read an old one previewing the '77-78 season (probably read it around 1983) and Walton was portrayed like a basketball God- which is understandable because he was such a great player at UCLA and the previous season for Portland. Growing up in the '80s, he was kind of a basketball phantom (as some of you call Kawhi now- but even more so for Walton, because he missed 2 entire seasons for the Clippers). I know he blamed himself for the failure of pro basketball in San Diego- but that scoundrel Sterling likely would have moved them to LA even if they were successful.

What a great commentator he was- so funny. One of the funniest people I've ever encountered- such hyperbole and absurdist humor- you never wanted to miss one moment of his commentary.

I highly recommend watching the documentary "The Luckiest Guy in the World" on the ESPN app. It is a great documentary series- provides a deep exploration of his life.
