Charlotte brings Ingram home?
Charlotte trades: Bertans expiring/Cody Martin/#6 draft pick/Miami 1st Rd pick 2027
New Orleans trades: Ingram
Charlotte gets a real talent to add to their young core in Ingram. They also get a Carolina kid, so the extension should make sense for them to pull the trigger on Ingram. Charlotte becomes a playoff caliber team in the East. They need to make a big splash with new ownership and new HC.
New Orleans does this to get a true pg in the draft. They have a chance to get Sheppard/Topic/Dillingham. Pelicans have been searching for a pg for years. They also get a very valuable future 1st from the Miami Heat in 2027. They also get some depth pieces with Bertans and Cody Martin. Not a bad return for a guy who entering his last year on his contract.
Thoughts?

I wouldn't hate trading #6 but I feel like the Nic Batum potential of Ingram's next contract might scare me off, or at least greatly reduce my interest in paying full value in a trade.
If we don't blow a ton of money this year, we'll have cap to just sign him for anything he wants in a year, assuming nobody drastically overpays him in an extension now.

I mean we need to make a splash with new ownership. This draft is just not it. The one player who most seem to like for Charlotte is Castle and he's reportedly only working out for teams that need a pg.
I feel like this is the perfect opportunity to trade our lottery pick for an established player who's from NC. We don't get big time FA's might as well just trade for one.

I don't disagree at all, I would happily trade the pick for a good player ... but I also don't think the player has to be from here.

A Melo/miller/ingram trio could be good.
Williams duo inside needs help. Maybe do this and sign Tobias.
For NO, let’s them target a young pg or more ammunition for a trade.

Or, 6, 17, 21 for sarr to fill center spot next to Zion. Could add Mia or Lal picks if needed.

I feel like Ingram is the type of player who would smother Miller's development as they play very similar roles, and Miller would have to 'overcome' being slotted in to the third option, and overtake Ingram.

And Charlotte's pick is lotto protected then becomes 2 2nds next year, so as much as I'm sure Charlotte wants to make the playoffs, it's only year 2 of Miller, it makes sense to just make a pick at #6 and hope to get one of the many 2-guards going in the lottery next year. One more year of losing.
LaMelo-2025-Miller-GrantWilliams-MarkWilliams as a starting 5, Bridges as 6th man if he sticks around and this year's pick at #6 in a bad draft either gets you a 3rd guard (Castle, Sheppard, etc..), another wing or Clingan falls to 6 and that's 2 quality centers and maybe Richards can bring something small back in a deal.
They should probably just stay patient, they might even be able to sign Ingram for free next summer, or at least a starting 2-guard (so the rookie can come off the bench) or another center if Mark Williams has injury issues.

Miller needs room to grow and to do so with Melo. The team needs to see how well those 2 guys play together and with hopefully a healthy Mark Williams as well. Bringing BI into the fold could mess up Miller's development, and wouldn't make that much difference win wise to be worth the massive deal he'd want. I think CHA should take the best guy they can at their spot, and hope for health with Melo/MWill.
As for BI, I've been of the opinion that DET is his best option and the best choice. They need a scorer and have too many young guys that are similar. Send them off to NOP for Ingram.

I'd like for Charlotte to draft a playmaker if all else is equal, in lieu of that I hope they add playmaking depth. I'm skeptical of LaMelo's longevity at this point.

I'm not really a Lamelo believer, but I'd be tempted to draft whichever wing could be a starting 4, since maybe Holland is strong enough or Buzelis can add some weight and get to like 6'10, 220 in his prime and survive at the 4. Helps the tank, and maybe you get a replacement for Grant Williams in 2-3 years at PF if that guy develops well.
Definitely a case for just picking Sheppard though, and having Sheppard guard 1s, hiding Lamelo on a 3+D guy and Miller at the 3, and maybe you do eventually move Lamelo for a wing or picks or a big.

I fundamentally disagree with the thesis in the OP that CLT needs to make a big splash due to new ownership. That cuts against the message of patience, incremental improvement, and building for sustainable long term success that has been preached both by new ownership and our new FO.

We been tanking for years. You're not ready to make a playoff push?
Even if we tank again we are not guaranteed a top 3 pick.
Just saying man I want Charlotte back in the playoffs sooner than later.

Re: Charlotte brings Ingram home?
The Pelicans are pretty win now which means this only makes sense if they can flip that draft capital to another team for a player and I'm just not sure that team is out there.
This feels at least one season too soon for Charlotte tbh. The Heat, Bucks, and maybe Philly, depending on free agency, are all watching their windows close, but they're not quite there yet. I don't think this vaults them into the top 6 in the East.

I'm saying that ownership and the FO have specifically talked about not skipping steps and not rushing to improve in a way that's not sustainable.
This ownership group isn't looking to "make a big splash" just for the sake of doing something.
