MPJ for PG

Post#1 » by AleksandarN » Tue May 28, 2024 11:26 am

Ok let me say this first. This will only work if PG doesn’t want to resign with the Clippers and wants a ring. This would give the Clippers a younger player who is 25 instead of losing PG for nothing. Nuggets throw in a first round pick due to MPJ’s health risk and down grade in immediate talent. Although in a couple of years that would be reversed if MPJ stays healthy. For the Nuggets they get better defensely and offensively they don’t lose much in terms of shooting. The only downside is age. PG is not getting younger. This works because KCP will decline his player option which would bring the Nuggets under the second apron. This making a sign and trade possible. Still leaves an option resign KCP after the trade. This would trigger the Nuggets being hard cappped but worth it. Having PG and AG as a front court defensive duo would be perfect around Jokic

Murray
KCP
PG
AG
Jokic

That would be a hell of a starting lineup

Option 1:

Give DEN an all star
Take on an overpaid player
Get 1st

Option 2:

DEN doesn’t get an all star
Use the full MlE (after resigning Harden)
One less future 1st

I’m taking option 2 easily

I don’t see this scenario lining up or interest in the Clipper’s side.

The clippers will not have the availability to use the full MIE due to being in the second apron.

OP is illegal for multiple reasons

1) receiving a S&T hard caps Denver at 1st apron, not 2nd
1b) PG makes >100% of outgoing salary which also hard caps denver at 1st apron
2) dont think they can fit george under 1st apron even without KCP, let alone bring KCP back too
3) LAC can't receive contracts back after sending out a S&T due to being in 2nd apron

Oh I assumed this was PG opting in. Yeah even less likely as a sign and trade.

Yeah, this one might could work for LAC if PG was going to a team under the second apron and Denver got a piece back they thought made them better than MPJ, yet not good enough that LAC cuts out Denver…

But the new CBA makes this mostly impossible.

They wouldn’t be if they just let PG walk. Losing him for nothing means DEN can’t get him and LAC gets the MLE.

Oh I didn’t understand. I thought you meant a resigned PG.

Clippers would hang up and laugh.

I wouldn't take MPJ for free with that contract. Hard pass from the Clippers.

The value is wildly off. MPJ is one of the worst deals in the league. George, while well paid, is still a high level player. A late first bridges that?
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

So Clipper fans would rather lose PG for nothing then get back a solid starter with elite shooting who has won a championship..lol that's hilarious.

They have a ton of wing depth. Why would they want to take on a player who can't do anything besides shoot who very, very likely will never improve his skillset and whose contract is absolutely terrible? Even for Ballmer, to pay the tax would have to be real worth it. MPJr isn't.

OKC would love if the Clips made this deal. Porter is the ideal tank commander.

Why would Denver do this? Former superstars 34+ are the worst investment in the NBA. PG13, Kawhi, Lillard, LeBron, KD, Harden, Westbrook, Klay, Butler. You pay them 50+ mil for their past success. They can't help you win, they can't stay healthy. Team goes straight into second apron that way. Steph is the only one worth the money but for how long? MPJ was healthier in the last two seasons than any of them. He was better than PG13 in this playoffs. And if we get PG13 then what. Take the ball from Jokic to give it to PG? Go from Murray/Jokic two man game into PG iso? PG in Denver, offensively, would have similar role as MPJ with few 1on1 opportunitys and catch and shoot role. People should learn from Clippers tragedy.

Because MPJ is a negative on the deal. I think Philly would be his target, get Harris back in a S+T, get a huge TPE.

I'm sure a team like Philly or Orlando would be willing to offer a better pick and some salary relief if that's what they needed to do to outbid this awful package from Denver.
