Got I hate that whistle so much. I get it. It is a foul. But it is the lamest whistle in this sport.

I am 95% sure that is supposed to be an offensive foul. Even if the defender is moving forward, you can't make an unnatural shooting motion to jump into the defensive player.

I would have to pull up the rule book, but what you are mentioning for landing space. The initial contact was made with Luka jumping forwards into Karl-Anthony Towns. The initial point of contact is where the foul call is generally determined.

If Luka jumps upwards into a normal shooting motion, that is a foul on Towns.
