Utah should want Poeltl. But we'd have to take back the horrible John Collins salary. I don't know if they'd attach enough picks to make us want to do that.

Utah already has a white 7 foot defensive center who is on a rookie contract. Walker Kessler is everything Jakob is but like 5 years younger

Utah has no use for Jak.

Memphis make sense to trade for Jak. OKC should look at Jak as well.

Interesting that Gradey followed both Tyson and Jones on Instagram. I suspect both came in and did a workout together.

The only two names that matter on the list IMO. Hawkins is intriguing as a UDFA signing though. I'ma need them to workout Watkins and Sallis to feel like they're really doing their homework.

Agreed. Not too moved either way by Hawkins - perhaps I should look into him more. But I' m happy they've worked out Tyson -he's been on my watchlist for a long time now. Just need them to workout Simpson and Sallis, also wouldn't mind working out Watkins and Ajay Mitchell as well.

Why is everyone willing to trade Jak? He is literally the only one who defends the paint and has size on the roster. We can't expect Kelly and a rookie C to help us win games, otherwise we will be worse than last season.

To me the only realistic trade options are Brown and Boucher and even then I am not sure we want to take on extra contracts years of other role players.

Just keep Jak and draft a third big to replace him in a couple years when his deal run out.

Jak is way better than Kessler. With that said, Jarrett Allen is a much more appealing C on the trade market and that's where I would expect OKC and Memphis to look. If OKC wants him, he's theirs given the draft capital to replenish Cleveland's cupboards after the Mitchell trade.

Today is May 29 so by midnight we will have the full list of guys withdrawing from the draft.

So far here is who I I know is returning:

Mark Sears is back to Bama after exploring the draft.
Trevon Brazile is back to college and likely the transfer portal.
JT Toppin looks like he just committed to Texas Tech.
Wooga Poplar is doing visits with NCAA teams next week, so I think he is out.

I know that Jamir Watkins, Michael Ajayi and David Jones have to be on the fence. It is mainly the younger guys who might want to make some NIL money rather than sit in the G-League for a couple years.

Cam Christie is staying in the draft and I think he is a likely first rounder. My gut says he ends up on Orlando although he'd be a fun target for Toronto.

Cam Christie, 18 years old (turns 19 in July): 6'4.5 without shoes, 6'8 wingspan, 190 lbs, 8.0 hand length
30.1 MIN, 11.3 PPG, 3.6 REB, 2.2 AST, 0.6 STL, 0.3 BLK, .403 FG, .391 3PT (5.4 ATT), .791 FT (2.0 ATT), .546 TS, 19.7 USG, 2.7 BPM

He's basically a lottery ticket. Maybe he's something in a few years, maybe he doesn't make it through his first deal.

Maybe if Cody Williams is drafted before their pick OKC trades #12 for Poeltl? OKC is a contender that can't afford to gamble on a C.

Lol, it has little to do with the precieved quality of the draft.

They are looking to build around Lauri and would rather do so with more established players than draft picks.

They already have their development prospects in Walker Kessler, Keyonte George and Taylor Hendricks and are going to prioritize adding more established talent to fit alongside Lauri Markannen.

Doesn't this have everything to do with the perceived quality of the draft? If they thought they had any chance at a game changer in any way, they wouldn't trade the pick. Simmons and Russillo said execs have told them a mid to late lottery pick in this draft could maybe get you a good bench piece in a trade.

What else are the Raptors getting? 12th pick in this draft for a starting center feels like a steal for the Thunder.

Kenrich Williams and #12 for Poeltl and cash? Kenrich can hit a 3 and is a much better defender than Jordan Nwora.

Ouuuu, KJ Simpsons is another name I should have added as I'm a big fan and think he brings huge value at 31. Ajay's a player I need to dive into more, I know he has some fans on the board.

It's a good feeling to know they're looking at the same guys many are high on. Let's hope it continues and the names we mentioned get their workout/closer look.

Kind of rough to lose these two. Sears has been getting Brunson comps for months, and Toppin has been getting a bit of buzz himself. I'm guessing they both don't want to risk going undrafted and/or NIL money is better than 2nd round money.

Devil's Advocate - Besides Scottie and maybe Gradey, people have no attachment to the roster. People would rather swing on an unknown in hopes of a home run rather than retread with what we know in Jak. In theory, Ware fits much better with what we need from a big. Scotties needs a stretch big.

Now my thoughts, I have no attachment to Jak. I never wanted him back and thought the ship had sailed. I don't think it's a bad idea to ship him for an asset and continue to be bad next year. While continuing to develop whatever prospects we have. I also will be content if we end up keeping Jak for the remainder of the season or contract because he is a serviceable big.

At the end of the day we all want the Raptors to be good, we just have differing opinions on how to get there.

Lauri is 26 going on 27 next season.

Keyonte, Hendricks and Kessler are still developing.

If they are going to get to the playoffs and past the first round, the path to do so will require players on the same timeline as Lauri as opposed to the latter and the path towards adding those players won't likely be through drafting more 18, 19, and 20 year olds who've never played a game in the NBA.

Beyond the picks in this draft, the Jazz have lots of future draft assets and players Sexton, Collins, and Clarkson who could be packaged along with those picks to acquire players that would better compliment Lauri than the players they currently have on the roster not named Keyonte, Walker, or Taylor.
Raptors record prediction: 45-37 (6th place in the East)

For what Utah is now and are building towards...Kessler is the better option for them at this moment. They aren't yet at the point when they are trading picks for established players so it makes sense for them to keep the pick and develop the young guys.

Poeltl makes sense for playoff teams that are looking to fill the hole at center and will need a big body to put on Jokic and Embiid...and not for teams who are just looking at adding young talent since Jak is closer to 30 years of age than 20.

Even if we draft a 5, I still think there's a 10% chance we trade Jak this summer - unless we get a too good of an offer for him which will be doubtful.

They will likely roll with Poeltl to start the season and use our pick in the back up 5 spot.

I understand why trading Poeltl now would be attractive in order to get best pick possible for 25'.... without him, we will be a lot worse. I am not apposed to this at all. I am saying it's a low chance because Masai doesn't want to tank to start the year and at least give the group a chance , which again , is based on history.

I think we get a 5 and a back up pg in this draft

something like:

Poeltl - Edey
Scottie - Olynyk
Agbaji - someone
RJ - Dick
IQ - KJ Simpson

still a long way to go.

I would imagine some people don't mind winning less next season to prepare for the 2025 draft.

Return to Toronto Raptors
