Pick 42 Draft Targets

Post#1 » by JMAC3 » Wed May 29, 2024 2:51 pm

A lot of options, especially since we do not know what direction we are heading at #6.

Centers: Edey, Holmes, Almanza, Chomche, Bona, Oso Iggy

Forwards: Mogbo, Keshad J, Bridges, Dillon Jones, Ryan Dunn, Edwards, Ingram

Wings: Tyson, Shannon, Djurisic, Ajinca, Diadet, Schierman, Larson, Salis, McCullar, Cam Christie

Guards: Nunez, Bronny, Shead, Kolek, AJ Mitchell, KJ Simpson, AJ Johnson

My 5 favs from this group are:
Holmes: Naz Reid type of weapon off the bench
Djurisic: Playmaking 2/3
Diadet: Upside play, still 18 and 6-8 guard
McCullar: Cody Martin type of pick
Pelle Larson- super smooth, can do it all and has good size. Reminds me of a Braun type of player.

Definitely not anyone named Ajinca

Dunn shooting it dead last at the combine pretty much took him off my list. Just zero confidence he ever figures that out.

Also, think the center group is pretty bad in the 2nd round this year. No way am I letting that influence my decision at 6, but just saying unless Edey or Holmes fall (doubtful on both). I would look to address a different position.

Kind of feel the same about PG, but I also could be more convinced here just so SL is more interesting.

Offense is awful, but I'd gamble on him at 42 considering he has an immediately translatable skill (elite D).

Assuming we waive Bertans, McGowens and Thor.

PG- Ball, Micic
SG- Mann, NSJ, Curry
SF- Miller, Martin
PF- Miles, Grant, Poku
C- Mark, Nick

The one position we are probably the deepest at is the 2 guard spot, only problem is we are also the weakest there in terms of top end talent. I also feel pretty good about our 4 spot as long as Miles is resigned.

The Question is: what role does 42nd pick play this year? Are we for sure putting them on a 2way like Amari Bailey? Or is it more likely we will need them to contribute from day 1?

He belongs to the Victor/Coulibaly generation (he was even the clutch shooter of the team back in their very early days).

He is a legit pro (already been playing and impacting at the pro level since last year) already unlike many unproven prospects in this draft.
Might be a bit up and down but you can't deny his fearless demeanor and he is one of those prospects that likes to compete and win his duels.

Knowing that's a 2nd rounder, i understand the history of french prospects here, but in this case he's worth the gamble as a Cody Martin cheap replacement.

But my pick would be Almanza.

Karaban just so we can watch UConn fans lose their minds.

Bronny James would be a nice backup pg option. Just throwing it out there.

Karaban was a favorite of mine for 42. Size and shooting at that cost is an efficient pickup. Also curious what his long game is by returning?

Shifting my view to Ajay Mitchell, KJ Simpson and Almanza as a long play.

Reference to Karaban, also Caleb Love, KJ Lewis from Arizona, Mark Sears from Alabama; more of the “good” pick ups in that range are and will jump out of this to return to college if they project into round 2. Weak draft becomes weaker.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

I’d like to see us draft a 4 who can hopefully be better than JT Thor.

I'm a fan of Harrison Ingram, and also like Kevin McCullar Jr and Jalen Bridges

Thor is getting cut, we actually probably could use a bigger 4 that can play some center though. Having to watch Grant Williams try to play center for 50 games is going to make my eyes bleed.

Guys in our system that could be on the way out based on a new GM. Amari Bailey, James Nnaji, Leaky Black, Bryce McGowens- all should get a shot in Summer League to showcase they deserve a spot.

I think PJ Hall would be a good Thor replacement. He doesn't have great measurements, but he's athletic, physical, and he can shoot it well enough to be a threat. I think he could come in and play a role for this team right away.
