If your going to trade Jimmy, sending him to Philly to compete with Embid is a win win in terms of acquiring assets and doing right by Jimmy who’s been phenomenal for this organization.
Now this only makes sense if your acquiring Mitchell with those assets.
That would keep our youth and open up Miamis window to compete for another 5 years.

Fuxk Embiid, fuxk Lowry and fuxk Philly. If they want to talk to us about Jimmy it starts with Maxey or all 5 1sts.

AirP. wrote:twix2500 wrote:AirP. wrote:You mean like the ones they were doing before Butler forced his way to Miami, handing multi-year contracts out to guys like Waiters, Johnson or maxing out Whiteside? That to me seems a way worse decision since you have to spend the money every year and Miami loves to overpay midlevel talent.
At least with Butler there's a chance he can be a difference maker, even in his mid 30s. If Miami can find a new #1, move Butler, but don't do it before and risk half a decade or more of first round outs with little to no hope of doing better.
Whiteside contract got Jimmy Butler. The point of signing Waiters, Whiteside and Johnson was to trade them. The Heat didnt have draft picks to trade. They had to make trade pawns out of projects which they did. They turned Whiteside, Waiters and Johnson into Butler, Iggy and Crowder.
Well, they traded Whiteside once the Dallas trade fell through, up to that point Miami was keeping him. It took Miami sending out an additional 1st to get Whiteside traded by rerouting Harkless to the Clippers.
Whiteside was signed to the max so Miami didn't lose him for nothing.
Waiters and Johnson resigned because of that good 2nd half of season Miami had.
Without Butler forcing his way to Miami, that 19-20 season and for the next few seasons probably would have been really bad and more than likely Iggy wouldn't have showed up in Miami like he didn't show up in Memphis nor would Miami probably make that Memphis trade. You could still be looking at the future of the big 3 of Bam, Herro and Winslow.
Completely agree that Whiteside was signed to not loose him for nothing. And to be fair, at that time Whiteside was putting up triple doubles almost game in, game out. The rest I think it was the Heat knowingly overpaying to repair their image in the DWade situation, besides needing to have some contracts of different sizes to be able to try to trade.
And a lot of things could have happened if Butler did not force his way here. We could have been bad enough in 2020 to pick Haliburton or maybe picked Maxey instead of Achiuwa. The Heat did not have have a pick in 21, I don't remember if that was because of the Butler trade in any capacity, but if it was we could have been bad enough that year to pick up Sengun.
By that Point we're looking at a starting 5 of
Haliburton / Maxey
Herro
???
Bam
Sengun
or we could have wiffed on all those picks too.
We got Lucky that Butler forced his way here. I do not believe the Heat did everything they could have done in the Butler era to get him all the help he can get, the new bargaining agreement also threw a wrench somewhere in there for sure. But as currently constructed we're right up against the 2nd apron and not good enough. We got the Bam extension looming along with the Butler one. If anything we have to shed current salary from our not good enough team no matter what just to get under. Extending Butler to a longer and bigger max contract is not the answer. If we get Mitchell, yes pay Butler but if not, trade him. Paying him that would be akin to seeing Wade starting to flame out but still paying him the money just cause. If we didn't do it for Wade, who we drafted, won 3 championships with us and we're going to have a 8 foot tall statue for, I don't think it's logical to give it to Butler.

Philly isn't trading Maxey lol
I'd imagine just about every team in the league would rather have Maxey than Jimmy right now considering age and salary.

I thought that too, but if Mitchell re-signs with Cleveland it looks like they will try to swap Garland for Ingram.

Not really, they are MLE type players who will be paid accordingly. Max had a very good year with the Cav's. Martin will get a good pay raise on his salary, he's making almost 7 mil, he can the MLE which is 12 mil or something a little less but still a good pay raise.

This is my view on what needs to happen if Jimmy is traded, considering contract situations and depreciated value of some all stars around the league we should have more than an enough to swing big and bring in not 1 but 2 young all star level guys that fit the Bam timeline. Whether that’s both right now or 1 now and maybe the other next summer/deadline.

Hot take - if KCP's market is 20m this summer then Caleb's market will be at least 15m.

Not many big/ signature wins to speak of.
They beat Philly a couple times without Jimmy but Philly didnt have Embiid either of those games. They also lost to Philly 3 other times, once without Jimmy and the playin game that Jimmy got hurt in.
The Milwaukee win was solid without Jimmy.
The Knicks win with Jimmy was up there, though.
As was the end of year OT win against the Hawks with Jimmy.
Whole season was a give and take with too few signature big wins.
Pretty evident though that without Jimmy, things would have been a whole lot worse.
I’m not advocating for moving Jimmy or anything but his impact on the regular season just wasn’t anything to speak of. You can allocate his $50M elsewhere and pretty easily find ourselves back into the play in tourney worst case. There weren’t any games where he was just willing us to wins. As annoying as he is in the regular season it’s fine I guess as long as he shows up when it matters, he didn’t this season and in return it was a wasted season mostly on his shoulders
I'm not convinced that replacing Jimmy with discardable role players wouldnt result in a steep drop off.
The team would struggle to get 30 wins.
We'd probably drop, but that's not a given. And we'd probably still end up in the play-in games because every year there are several teams tanking so you end up with ~ 12 teams competing for 10 spots.
The 5 seasons before Jimmy arrived we finished in the top 10 in the Eastern Conference every year.

Waiters, the Johnsons, and Whiteside, got paid for the same reason that Duncan Robinson got paid. Spo made them look like real players for a while and Pat fell for it over and over again.

Whiteside got paid because he earned it. There’s a reason Cuban offered him a max deal within hours of free agency opening.
