Anytime you can lock down a coach who led your team to 15 wins, you gotta do it.

All kidding aside, he was MASSIVE improvement over Nepo hire Wes Unseld Jr. Obviously the Wizards are the least talented team in the league. Keefe at least knew when to call timeouts, and give young players PT and develop them. He wasn't part of Unseld's staff before last season and was brought in specifically by the new FO of Winger & Dawkins.

Because of the last name, Unseld wasn't "fired", but was reassigned to the FO (which meant do nothing and stay in the corner). He recently left the organization and went to the Bulls.

TBH I know nothing about Keefe, but I know an opportunity to take a cheap shot when I see one.

Yeah, Unseld wasn't even playing Deni super significant minutes (he was getting around 25-30 MPG) before he was fired for some inexplicable reason. After Keefe took over, it became 35-40 MPG consistently through the end of the year.

Unseld should have been fired for being the main proponent of drafting Johnny Davis LOL.

Thought it might be Adam Keefe.

That was one terrible ginger.

But honestly, Wizards fans are pretty happy with Keefe and the players in the locker room apparently love him. He figured out how to get the best out of Poole (who played MUCH better over the final 25 games) and he gave Avdija more minutes and a larger role. And the Wizards finished the season on a tear, winning a whopping 6 games in the final 20. And that was without Tyus Jones for the most part. That projects to a 24-win season, which is much better than the 9-53 record they had through the first 62 games.

So basically, he was developing the young guys better while winning more games. Since the Wizards' goal is player development at the moment, what's not to like? I don't know if Keefe is the coach of the future or not, but I think the Wizards will be in much better position to attract a coach of the future if they wait another season, land another high pick, and develop some of their young talent some more. So Keefe in the interim makes a ton of sense.
