If Scoot were in the 2024 NBA draft...
I spend less time in this draft board, but figured this was the best place for such a question. The point of this is to kind of get an idea of how people view the quality of this draft with a player I'm more familiar with. I'm posing this question as "Where would current Scoot Henderson be drafted in the 2024 draft?" So, not Scoot based on last year's scouting report, but knowing what we saw this past season. He had a particularly rough start, but then slowly started showing more promise as the season went on. As a rookie, he went 14/3.1/5.4, which is pretty good raw stats, but his advanced stats and efficiency struggled. He shot 38.5%, 32.5% from 3, and 81.9% free throws, with a 48.9% TS and a high 3.4 TOs per game. He puts good effort on D, but has not proven to be a good defender yet. His improvement throughout the season overall was a good sign, with increases in his raw stats and his efficency, with pre-All Star raw stats going from 12.9/3.0/4.7 to post-All Star 16.6/3.5/7.1 and shooting going from 37.5/31/81.8 (48.4 TS) to 40.2/35/82.1 (49.9 TS). Turnovers are the one thing that got worse post all-star, going from 2.95 to 4.47, though assists to turnovers remained roughly the same (1.59 to 1.58). Essentially, Scoot was hyped as a guy who could go #1 in other drafts last year, but was selected #3 and his stock dropped due to not being as advertised, but there are still signs that he could develop into a good player. So is this draft lacking so much hype that despite the disappointing season, he'd still go #1? Or would he be top 5, or even out of the top 5?

I'd say he'd still go #1, by a fair margin.
Although, Scoot does have his detractors....

With the context of this season sarr *might* go ahead of him, but after that I don't think anyone would. Without that context he'd easily be first.

That is a depressing thought.

"Where would current Scoot Henderson be drafted in the 2024 draft?"
Probably 8-12
I don't think people are understanding the question.

I still think he goes 1 or 2. He was 19 for most of the season playing the hardest position to learn. Post all-star he averaged 16/3/7 on 40/35/82 shooting - and while that is really inefficient (TS 49.9%) it is still showing some nice flashes. The last 19 year old point guard to go top 5 was LaMelo Ball, and he averaged 16/6/6 on 44/35/76 shooting (quite a bit better) and before that was D'Angelo Russell who averaged 13/3/3 on 41/35/74 shooting (TS 50.7%). If you expand the range of who is drafted you get guys like Dyson Daniels, etc. who were all really raw in their age 19 year and really inefficient. I think Scoot's efficiency will be better next year and people will start to see why he was drafted so high.

I could care less about his raw numbers, teams are going to force feed the ball to the rookie point guards they took in the top 10. Trey Burke averaged 13/6 as a rookie, Mudiay averaged 13/6 as a rookie... seeing it some with Jaden Ivey now. The raw numbers will be there until they are not.
He didn't make the all rookie team, I would be willing to bet it will be pretty easy to name 10 guys from last class and this class you would take over Scoot moving forward by the end of next year if not more than 10.

Consensus #1.
Being a rookie PG is hard, very few PGs were actually any good as rookies. (Magic Johnson and CP3 are basically the only ones who were get from the get go, almost all the others took a couple of years to really get going)

Re: If Scoot were in the 2024 NBA draft...
I would absolutely be calling Washington if I was Portland and getting the #2 pick for Scoot.
I would rather take a chance on at least 5-6 guys, maybe more knowing I get the extra year of rookie production as well.
Washington would be clowned so hard for making that trade.

Maybe, there's always a chance he can't figure it out, but I still believe in the talent much more than I did with Ivey (who I also still like & think in the right context will be pretty good).

Imagine someone giving the Pistons the #2 pick right now for Jaden Ivey, who is better than Scoot. Wild

Hawks are trading #1 for Scoot Henderson and building around him.

No chance in HELL that the Hawks trade the #1 for Scoot no matter how trash this draft is.

Scoot just turned 20, Ivey is 2 years older (almost exactly) with a year less team control. I don't think Ivey has similar value to Scoot at all. Feel free to take a deep dive on 19 year old point guard, too, they are almost singularly bad in their rookie years - even the good ones. The only exception I found in the last 5 years was LeMelo Ball (maybe I am missing someone - they are also rare so small sample size, etc.).

Scoot is so much higher level a prospect, even now, than anyone in this year's draft.

Re: If Scoot were in the 2024 NBA draft...
Scoot has to improve soooooo much just to be an average 2nd year player.
There are going to be just flat out good rookies in this class that we immediately value more than him day 1.

I think this thread has been informative in confirming this statement.
Everyone except JMAC3 and Big J have said Scoot would go #1 fairly easily.
Those two are big detractors and don't like Scoot as a prospect (which is fair).
I didn't love Scoot as a prospect last year. However, the longer the season went along, the more of a believer in Scoot I became (ie - I'm higher on his long-term potential now than I was July 1 last year).
But even with my lowest evaluation of Scoot, I'd still take him #1 in this draft.

Re: If Scoot were in the 2024 NBA draft...
I like Scoot a heckuva lot more than Jaden Ivey. Ivey works out with Morant and is a coach's son and plays basketball like he just picked up a rock for the first time. He should be watching tape of Tyrese Maxey to learn how to play because it's a waste of his speed.
