What if Kyrie wins Finals MVP?

Post#1 » by ceiling raiser » Mon May 27, 2024 2:56 am

If the Mavs win, it's very likely going to be on the back of a big Luka performance. However, can't count out Kyrie (perhaps the most skilled player in the league, outside of maybe Steph and Trae).

Obviously awards are only awards, but he's really showing himself to be one of the premier clutch players in the league in the past decade+.

Feels like this guy was considered dead and buried, but it always came off as a semi-contrived blackballing because of silly controversies.

It would be a nice revenge tour to take down an overhyped Boston team. Would also have pretty significant implications on some of the legacies of his current/former teammates.

Regardless -- hats off to him for showing up strong this year.
Now that's the difference between first and last place.

Probably mean as much Iguodala winning it. He's nowhere near the best of his era, a boutique player.

It would be a good story to be on Celtics court with Kyrie holding the trophy and kissing the logo he stepped on to make peace with the past

Yeah, I think we all know that Luka is the primary engine of the team, but Kyrie has been amazing. And it's very much a redemption tour type of season for him. He's slotted in very well, and is just a nasty threat on that squad. It would probably pretty a fairly strong feel-good moment for Kyrie to put the pins in a title against the Celtics, and just that much sweeter with the Finals MVP.

I don't think its a given that Luka has to have a huge series for the Mavs to win it. It might be enough if he gives them 28/10/10 on ok efficiency and Kyrie + 1 other player step up in a big way. I don't think it makes much difference who would get the fmvp tbh but I think there's a 95% chance it would be Luka. He just means too much to them in an all around way to give it to anyone else.

It would add to a prob. be the greatest accomplishment of his career. It's a shame Dwight Powell landed on his knee, then that dumb thumb sprain. Should've been on the all-star and All-NBA third team as well.

This has been a great year for him. A lot of people wrote him off, which was understandable in a way due to his behavior. But this guy is an incredible ball player and it would then be impossible for people to lie about that.

Winning it against Boston of all teams would be hilarious too.

Sounds like the big thought here is just how much Kyrie's legacy is shifting with his success in Dallas, and yeah, feels huge for him. A good end to this playoff run will leave him next to a lock for the Hall.

Finals MVP? Yeah, could happen. Unlikely, but could. Would be another feather in Kyrie's cap, and people would use it as a cudgel against Luka - rightly or wrongly.

I do love that this is considered just an OK performance.

Well by his standards he's going to get at least 9reb and 9ast almost no matter how bad he's playing. He's also going to shoot a high enough volume and get to the line enough that he should get at least 27ppg too. So 27/9/9 is probably close to his floor in a playoff series.

Wasn't disputing your logic, just think that a Finals ~30ppg triple double being the expected floor is amusing, even in a modern helio offence.

He'd follow in the footsteps of AI, Zeke and Derrick Rose in that he'd be on the path to becoming one of the most overrated players in NBA history lol.

What do you take me for, that you treat somebody like me with such contempt?
