Re: OT: TV and Movies
Saw Furiosa tonight. Very solid movie and pretty much what you want from a Mad Max movie - big set pieces, great sound, dystopia vibes, etc. Hemsworth was excellent. Anya Taylor-Joy was pretty good as a younger Furiosa, which is saying something as I'm not much of a fan of hers. The Menu kind of poisoned the well for me when it comes to her. Her affect is just off-putting. But it worked here.
I know folks have said that this isn't a must-see-in-a-theater movie, but I strongly disagree. I'm not sure I'd enjoy this nearly as much without the huge screen and massive surround sound.
ETA: I just saw that Yahya Abdul-Mateen was originally cast as Praetorian Jack and now I'm left wondering how much better the movie would have been with him in it over the incredibly bland Tom Burke.

Between Ghost of Tsushima and now Shogun, I'm basically living in some alternate samurai universe right now.

Whoever decided to have loud snapping as part of the dark matter background music constantly should be banished from Hollywood. They had a similar thing in that hulu murder mystery cruise show that was equally annoying. For the life of me, I can't understand how that would be pitched as a good idea.

I haven't been able to get into Dark Matter as much as I expected, and I loved the book. Huge Blake Crouch fan.
I guess after Three Body Problems I expected a certain level and it just isn't there.
Completely unrelated, Brooklyn 99 is in my top 10 shows all time for sure.

TV shows are never good when they adapt novels you can read in an afternoon.

Really? I thought he was the breakout star of the film. Had never heard of the guy before.

Neither had I. But I just wasn't a fan. Perhaps it was unfair comparing him to the other main characters in the film - who were far more charismatic, IMO - or even comparing him to Tom Hardy's Max in Fury Road. But I just thought he came off as fairly boring with the same expression on his face for 95% of the scenes he was in.

I assume I also haven't seen anything yet if I don't think I've seen him do sword work.

The wife and I have really been milking Shogun. Just so good. Might have to give this game you speak of a go.

Re: OT: TV and Movies
I discovered The Night Manager on Amazon this weekend. I've ploughed through 5 of the 6 episodes. It's very good. Stars Tom Hiddleston as an MI6 agent tracking down Hugh Laurie the billionaire arms dealer. Based on a John Le Carre novel.
At a party given by a billionaire, Kurt Vonnegut informs Joseph Heller that their host had made more money in a single day than Heller had earned from his novel Catch-22.
Heller responds, “Yes, but I have something he will never have — ENOUGH.”

I liked it quite a bit. It's been 8 years but it was announced last month there will be 2 more seasons of 6 episodes.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.
