Re: D'Angelo Russell Anyone?
I thought he'd be a sneaky add at the deadline, but just as a short term band aid. He's been pretty awful in the playoffs, but even then he probably could of helped this team in that Cleveland series. 4.3 threes per 100 possessions is useful.
If the Lakers just needed to clear cap, and we just took him on into some vacated space, I mean much rather have DLo that Fultz (or Cole). Ultimately I hope we can do better, but if we can't, he's cheap both in terms of salary and what it would take to get him. 1 year until we can find something better sure...Still think we can do better this offseason

"Ha, yeah, you got me there. Defense ain't my strongest suit, but hey, who said I ain't working on it? Every day, I'm in the gym, putting in the hours, trying to improve. But let's keep it real, I'm an offensive guy. I shine when I have the rock in my hands, making plays, dropping dimes, hitting those clutch shots. That's what I do.
But don’t get it twisted, it doesn't mean I'm neglecting my defensive duties. Nah, man, I'm out there, giving it my all on both ends of the floor. It’s just that some things come naturally, and some things, well, they take a bit more work. And I'm not afraid of a little hard work.
And remember, basketball isn't just about one-on-one matchups. It's about team defense, communication, being in the right place at the right time. That's what I'm focusing on. So yeah, maybe I ain't the next Gary Payton, but I'm D'Angelo Russell, and I'm doing me.
I'm out here, man, doing my thing, and I ain't slowing down. So for all those doubters and haters, just keep watching. You're gonna see a lot more from D'Lo. Ice in my veins, always."

On a Jamahl Mosley coached team, if Russell did not put 100% energy on the defensive end, he would be benched. Thus: there is a real question if trading/signing Russell would be about adding bench depth over a starter. That will give WePark pause on him.

I think he's beyond Mosley's influence. So many better options, imo. He's obviously a pretty stubborn, immature guy...even after all of the self-created hiccups in his career, he still sounds like he has no self-awareness to me.
Great talent and physical profile. Great fit on paper...but no from me.

the FO is going to have to decide which attainable asset they're willing to bet on for the defensive side because right now there really isn't a clear 2 way player. As crazy as it sounds the better 2 way dudes would be a De'Anthony Melton. Shot 36% on 5.6 3pa and is a + defensively.
Monk
DLo
Murray (don't think he's available really)
Gap
Tyus
Simons ( YIKES)
Melton
then HUGE Gap
Dinwiddie
A scoring guard.. never heard of one.

and I don't think Dejounte is really available moreso Atlanta saying yeah you can have him but you better blow our socks off on a deal. They don't have to trade either Trae or Dejounte and honestly, with #1 pick in Sarr they now can trade Capela or Okongwu and look a lot different this upcoming year. They're a top 3 interesting team come draft and FA IMO

Jones- great shooting, great passing, most defensive potential in my eyes. Was good defender in memphis, has suprisingly bulky frame. Some questions as a starter
Dlo- great shooting and good passing, proven starter
Monk- average shooter and average passer, 6th man
Melton- average shooter, average passer, atrocious 2p%
Murray (assets)
Simons (assets)
Dinwiddie
My money is on Banchero going number 1 !

The only time Tyus Jones is "bulky" is when he's standing next to Trae Young...and he's a great shooter like Gary Harris is a great shooter (high efficiency, relatively low volume). I'd LOVE to have Tyus Jones coming off the bench for us- but he's much efficient than impactful. Maybe that's what you and others see as our path to progress...I'm thinking about someone much more explosive.
DLo just seems like kind of a jerk, sadly.

Re: D'Angelo Russell Anyone?
For what it’s worth, I don’t think D’Angelo Russell is the right guy for you.
As a player, he has strings of games when he’s hot, and strings of games where he’s cold. He won’t stop shooting on his cold nights. He’s a good passer, but he still doesn’t know when to pass and when to shoot - a problem he’s had since college, when he was forced to be a point guard. And he doesn’t even try on defense, and as he said last year, “I’m not paid to play defense.” Defense is your identity, five guys all working hard to defend. The guy DLo is guarding always gets by him, and comes into the paint with a head of steam, leading to fouls on your big men.
Even more concerning is his attitude. After he was traded from the Wolves, lots of stories began to appear. While the addition of Gobert could have really helped him, throwing lobs and erasing his defensive lapses, he never got on board. He refused to alter his game to throw lobs, insisting on bounce passes that hit long-legged Rudy in the shins. Worse, he openly mocked Rudy on and off the court, and the Wolves team chemistry didn’t come together until after he was traded. He also thinks he is better than he is, complaining after the trade that MIN held him back, making him a third option. He thought he and Towns should be the stars, and he wanted to take shots from Anthony Edwards!
DLo is who he is, and I could see these problems happening on your team too. I hope your team looks elsewhere.

The Athletic’s Lakers beat reporter Buha said this of Russell’s free agency “Orlando’s the team. Orlando is the team that…talking to people with the Lakers, talking to people outside the Lakers, Orlando is the team that probably gives them the most concern in terms of potential suitor.”

Russell is a quality starter. We could do much worse. 18/3/6 on 46/42/83 shooting is third option territory, but his impact leaves much to be desired. I think I honestly prefer Tyus Jones, even though I see Russell as the 19th best PG and Tyus as the 25th best PG.

Last year Fultz was the ~20th best PG. If Jones and Russell are in that range; a big No Thanks.

I agree with your assessment although Tyus is not as high on my wish list...I'd much prefer Tyus to Russell. Sadly, it's because Tyus would certainly not be a "fail". I don't think he moves the needle enough to be our primary target - but he's just not a guy that will set us back or blow up the locker room. DLo puts up the kind of numbers I'm looking for but his personality and trail of disappointments is way too long. His issues are the kind I'd maybe overlook if he was 23 and was in a questionable fit situation...he's been on a bunch of teams for a bunch of years. As optimistic as I am about ORL's coach and culture - I don't think DLo is "fixable".
Let's face it, LBJ is the strongest, most influential teammate in the league and he's been unable to elevate DLo's NBA stature, despite being a beautiful fit (on paper at least) as a Lead Guard in LA. LBJ's presence makes me feel that LAL can absorb almost any "problem child" like Lavine, etc and milk the most out of their talent while keeping them on the rails.

i am not the biggest fan of Russell, but....
Unpopular opinion, Russell is probably a better player than Monk. better shooter, better passer, stats show similar defense/rebounding. yes, Russell does boneheaded things but i think he may be a bit more talented than Monk.

You can have all the talent in the world but if you don’t buy into the system your value is greatly diminished.
Orlando is a system team where defense and doing what’s best for the team comes 1st.
Im completely out on DLo

dont get me wrong, i completely agree. and i think he is bone headed. but would you take him and his production at say 4 years $20mil/yr vs Monk at 4 years $25mil/yr+? which gives you more money for the bench? guess it depends if interviews with him, if you believe he could buy into playing more defense. I wouldnt even consider if i didnt see a miracle of Kyrie now playing hard, good defense.
