I effin hate the NBA product currently and I'd glad take something different like the WNBA.

did you guys not see Kyries sky hook floater game winner a few months back? it was real nice. had a huge impact on playoff seeding too.

Does not change the fact that the current product sucks.

I haven't seen anybody finish like, say, Steph Curry, who despite being almost a foot shorter than opposing centers and not having great hops often figures out how to score at the rim in heavy traffic, using hesitation moves, reverse layups, underhanded shots, etc. I suppose it's because they haven't had to until they reach the WNBA, in the AAU and college games, they rarely encounter true shot blockers. But every WNBA team has true shot blockers.

I believe you haven't watched enough WNBA games yet

I did see that and it was cool. But this comes down to personal opinion in terms of aesthetics. These days NBA offenses spam 3s, run a whole lot of picks rolls, and are heliocentric and guard-heavy. Most WNBA offenses look like 80s throwbacks to me with more 3s. Plus, more physical defense is allowed.

A couple of Indiana Fever tidbits -

1) At 114.9 points per 100 possession, their defense is on track to set the record for the worst defense in WNBA history, beating the old record of 114.0 points, which was set by a previous Fever team.

2) Their interior defense is so soft that the team's leader in blocked shots is ... Caitlin Clark.

Not that their perimeter defense is any good either.

cardoso looked real good on offense in her debut (although the above post is kind of putting a damper on my excitement)

still, after a few games of watching angel reese huck up bricks at point blank range, having a big who can actually finish around the rim is a welcome change of pace

I'm a Cardoso fan and a reese hater just based off watching the NCAA tourney. The league really needs to embracing all these young women as for many new fans this is how we found them and this is why we are watching some WNBA now.

I'll go ahead and make a sig bet that Mikal is better by RPM this year than Zach.

I don’t watch the WNBA (horrendous product) but is this the norm in that league? Is it usually 1980s Pistons style basketball?

officiating is pretty bad. They will go long stretches of letting extremely physical play go by and then call a ticky tack foul. That play in question was poor sportsmanship as was Reeces celebration of it. Chuck might be right about some of these women.

They need to lower the physicality of the game and encourage the skilled aspect of it.

more of this please. less of the video above.

this stuff is so funny. they're so jealous of her, it's pathetic. like, maybe you should've been better at basketball, people hate this woman solely because she exists and is actually good.

chennedy carter had a much better game than caitlin clark

the two were chirping at each other for a while, carter took a cheap shot, it happens. people making a crisis out of a hip check is exhausting

That's not just a cheap shot, it's incredibly cowardly.

We've seen both Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark cop ridiculous fouls at the hands of other players who appear jealous that the new draft class are the focus of the WNBA.

Angel's touch around the rim makes Andre Drummond look like Nikola Jokic. She just kind of flips the ball in the general direction of the basket and prays for a miracle. As someone who doesn't watch NCAA basketball at all, I'm wondering how a non-shooting big in such a prominent role leaves college after 4 years with absolutely no moves around the rim.

Her defense looks very promising, the offensive rebounding is insane. But right now she's seriously hurting the offense because she's not a threat to score from anywhere.

From the physical perspective it’s not a big deal. But yelling “hey bitch!” right before doing it while Clark’s back was turned is just more of the petty and embarrassing ugliness from WNBA players so obviously jealous of the only fame they have ever really benefitted from on a wide scale (which is certainly not their own fame). It is pathetic and has already caused me to put the WNBA back in the “not worth my time” box of ignored entertainment options.

Barkley is clearly right about what is going on in the WNBA. Maybe I’ll give it another shot next year if they stop acting like a bunch of 13 year olds and Bueckers shows up.

I get being physical with the rooks and “welcoming” them to the league, but there are two really big ironies here:

1. After decades of WNBA players, coaches and advocates moaning about how no one gives a damn about your league, someone makes people care and you hate her for it and very publicly treat her like ****.

2. Jemele Hill wrote that part of Clark’s popularity is less basketball and more pretty white heterosexual from the Heartland. I think she’s absolutely right about that being a huge factor in Clark’s massive popularity. If she looked and loved like Briner she would not be the exact type of sensation she is. People are very “comfortable” with Clark in addition to her being generationally phenomenal and extremely entertaining. But the ugly irony is it’s probably also a big part of the extra hate she gets every night from her WNBA colleagues.

It will pass and she will end up the dominant superstar she’s going to be and everyone in the NBA will lick her boots like she’s Kobe. And maybe the short term childish drama will actually draw fans like it’s the WWE or a Kardashian show. But it doesn’t interest me.

It's ironic that the jealous thug and lesbian players are out to destroy their cash cow. For better or worse not enough paying fans gave a crap about the WNBA prior to this season. And Clark is the primary reason why. Injure her on purpose or drive her out of the league and the WNBA will revert back to being a fringe sport that generates no wealth for its owners or its players. Jason Whitlock predicted everything that's happening to Clark and it's deeply rooted in jealousy and reverse racism. Before she entered the WNBA Draft Whitlock advised her to stay at Iowa for one more year and get as much NIL money as possible, then retire from competitive basketball and go on to live happily ever after. I know lots of professional women who have told me that they prefer to work WITH men and FOR men rather than an office full of women and hostile girl bosses. Nobody is harder on women than other women. Why is that?

Eh, I don't get too worked up about the Clark hazing. Most of the WNBA players have been very supportive of her. There is a cottage industry of commentators who try to make mountains out of the few exceptions, Whitlock being chief among them.

But I do think that the WNBA needs to clean up the play. In watching about 12 games, I've seen as many elbows to the head, either completely unpenalized or ruled only a common foul, as I have in a season's worth of NBA ball.

Awful way to lose the game. Defense looked clueless for a large portion. Kept letting leak outs and easy drives to the basket happen. Offensive spacing looked horrible at points too, players going in the same direction as a teammate, bringing a defender with them.

The Carter shove of Clark, while unnecessary as hell, wasnt not warranted. On the previous play Clark swiped down towards her head battling for a rebound and when they scored she stared and yelled at her. So Carter gave her that same energy back. People online are making a fuss about the shove when its really nothing, Clark complains a lot while also flopping and talking trash lol. The attention that Clark is bringing is great, but people are about to be insufferable with these awful takes
