I've never really understood the "take fewer threes" people out there. The numbers pretty clearly indicate taking and making more threes in general is very highly correlated with winning games, and especially so for a team like Boston that lacks the highest level of offensive engine that guys like Jokic or Luka are.

The Celtics offense this year essentially is making a bet: Our shooters are good enough that if we take a ton of threes we will hit enough to win 4 out of 7 games. We may go cold for a game or two every series, but it won't matter overall. They built an offense that made to out-math the opponents offense.

In this series Boston will have an advantage simply because the shots they can generate with a five-out offense are going to be better and taken by better shooters than the Mavs offense can generate. That doesn't guarantee victory, as we saw last year a mediocre shooting team like the Heat can get red hot and win a 7 game series. But with Holiday/KP out there the bar to outshoot the C's is a lot higher than in past years.

I complain a lot about Cs "chucking threes" but when teams have limited our 3-ball attempts, they've had more success. I guess it just boils down to the type of threes we're taking and at what spots (both spots on the floor and time/situation).

This is also how the Heat beat the Cs last postseason. You even heard Spo say it in the broadcast. Take away Cs' threes.

In the past, our issues were that we lacked interior scoring ability, our game planning was not creative, and we didn't know what to do if we couldn't rely on taking threes.

Anyways, just focus on efficiency, IMO

Reg season, we were 50-1 when our TS% was at least 60% (I am rounding .595 up)

Versus 2-12 when our TS% was below 55% (I am rounding .548 up)

In the playoffs, it's 8-0 versus 1-1.

I know that's an obvious correlation, but it's crazy what a difference 5% can make in this context.

It's also a matter of how many close games the Celtics can win in this series.

I think the mavs are just a bad matchup for the Celtics so I'd wager this goes Mavs in 6, but Mavs in 5 wouldn't surprise me. I'm hoping I'm wrong though I'd enjoy a longer series. Good luck though, I think the Celtics have a bright future.

How are Mavs such a bad matchup for Cs ??
If anything, it is the other way around
We have 4 defenders (5 with Horford) to throw at Luka AND Luka will have to defend his *** off on other end, while Kyrie will struggle vs Cs more than any other team and he will have to defend his *** off as well

...plus KP looking more and more likely to play

Go watch March 1 game where there is not a single name on the injury report for either team.
Luka was Luka, had like 36, Kyrie had 19. Cs won 138-110

Imagine we live in time where Mavs fans says that they are bad matchup for us when its another way around.
And lets not forget that Mavs wont be able to play the same D they played against others . They where protecting paint like crazy.
That wont work against team who shoots 3s as much as we do

Wolves' incompetence really making people overrate the Mavs.

Teams with size and speed will give the Celtics problems.

But the Mavs is a perfect fit for the Celtic defense.

Yeah I watched that game. It was when the Mavs lost 5 of 6 because Kidd changed the entire defensive scheme. He changed it back after that stretch to what it is now, after the players said the scheme wasn't good. If you think the Mavs look anything like they did that game or during that week you have something else coming.

Then you'll have seen that all the wolves fans voted for wolves in 5 or 6 too. Before that OKC said in 5 or 6. I read the same from the clippers fans. All of them are in Cancun now. Hope Tatum booked his hotel.
