21/22 was 48 win team that took a more talented Sixers team to 6 games despite being injured. We had the ROY and things were looking like we were trending to 50 wins again.

22/23
Our shooting completely disappeared for the first 3 months (literally everyone).
This forced our already miscast 1st option (Siakam) to burn out early trying to keep the team afloat.
Barnes had a sophmore regression
The locker room had issues
The coaching had issues.
We doubled down with a badly timed Poeltl trade
We were slightly better but not much.
We lost in the play-in embarrassing fashion
Our rookie center went down with an injury never to return
We lost our starting PG to FA

Literally everything went wrong / mismanaged.

2023/24
Training camp opens with Masai calling his best player selfish, claims they can benefit from Fred leaving for nothing.
Previous season's best prospect unable to play with breathing problems.
Dennis Schroder says the team doesn't root for each other to do well
Scottie leaves a game early, the coach says he talked to Scottie about it, Scottie embarrasses his coach by saying he wasn't spoken to.
OG traded, revealed he'd been telling everyone for years he wanted to end up in NYC. The trade looks promising, though.
Team helps Detroit avoid history. Scottie pouting on the floor because of the OG trade in this game (but a recurring theme all year).
Pascal traded for peanuts, revealed that he'd been talking to Haliburton for months about joining up, but that he wanted to stay in Toronto.
Dennis Schroder traded for nothing.
Some of Pascal's peanut return traded for an over-the-hill UFA and one of Masai's friends sons, who is sold by the general manager as someone that can pick up Scottie's spirits (even though Scottie was sold as the kind of player that picks people's spirits up, like wtf?)
Team fails to trade Bruce Brown.
Team releases previous season's best prospect due to career-threatening blood clots.
Team releases their 5"7 UDFA.
Darko repeatedly calls out the team for lack of effort.
Scottie breaks hand, ends season early.
Raptors aggressively tank. Masai touts Jontay Porter as one of the prospects they are high on (more on this later).
Both of the recently acquired sons of Masai's friends struggle with extended playing time in a no stakes environment.
Prospect that Masai said they're excited about banned for life.
Team loses #7 pick in lottery

Eh the Schroder and Porter things aren't the big of a deal in the end.

We still may deal Brown.

We chose a direction at least. Doesn't compare to 22/23 to me.

They chose a direction in 2022/23, too. In each case they just wasted a lot of assets, but at least in the latter the asset they gave up for Poeltl ended up being much higher than it could have been. The worst of all worlds. That's part of the 2024 experience, though, even though the trade was executed in 2023.

And isn't this whole thread about what we think was the bigger deal? I think one of your players fixing games is huge. Especially when management previously tried to sell him as a part of the future they were rebuilding for. This is a part of the experience of watching the Raptors this year. Of course, it's not like it was an important player, but there haven't been too many NBA players banned for life

It's really hard to say, I found 23/24 to be the least enjoyable season in recent memory, but (a large) part of that is because it had been building up from 22/23. The other part of it had to do with the Spurs owning our pick...and Masai calling for a tank regardless

Team has been a dumpster fire since 2020. We need to get serious again

Holding onto assets for far too long when it was obvious it wasn't going anywhere was the problem...The last 4 years have been terrible...Post Championship team i give a pass...After the Tampa season and got Barnes we should have traded Siakam/FVV to maximize their value...OG was going to be valuable regardless....But Masai messed the last 4 years here pretty bad.

2022/23 was the worst year for the franchise likely since 2003-04.

An obviously limited product that everyone but the front office could see was the case; and decisions that messed up two of the three draft years post drafting Barnes.

Just painful denial and clawing at straws.
