Risacher being first off the board would be like if Ousmane Dieng went #1 overall in 2022. Like, I can see you talking yourself into him being the highest upside dude in this class, but....yikes.

I think the relatively low upside with him is the main problem actually. It’s hard to envision him being more than a good 4th/5th piece. Feels like you’re getting in on the ground floor of Keegan Murray and hoping he turns into that level of shooter. Still might be worth the pick with this class though; everyone either projects as a solid role player or a creator that can’t carry an offense. I can talk myself into his size and theoretical shooting and defense being an impactful contributor and if god forbid he learns how to dribble, you could have something pretty exciting there.

Re: 2024 NBA Draft Thread
I read that DaRon Holmes has shut down all workouts because there is a promise in the late 1st Round area. This made me rewatch and compare Kelel Ware and DaRon Holmes. This reminded me of the Thon (Kelel) & Sabonis (DaRon) comparison I was scouting back in the days, I took the swing for the fences approach back then, I think I will pick differently and take the best overall basketball player right now who is DaRon. Serious thought to pick him #23. He is literally a Myles Turner type modern 5, plug and play right now.
PS As someone else pointed out, Kelel's motor is not quite NBA ready and his feet is kinda slow. Holmes moves smoother, shoots better, not flashy but basketball correct moves.

Re: 2024 NBA Draft Thread
Thon wishes he had the coordination and footwork Kel-el has right now, and Kel-el doesn't even have that good of coordination and footwork lol. Kel-el is facing competition his own age. Thon also thought he could put the ball on the floor like a wing. Nope. Don't see many similarities between their games at all, outside of being lanky and a possible motivation issue.
I do like DaRon so I wouldn't be upset with that direction.

Honestly I don't think this would be a bad pick. A faster Al Horford anyone? Could be a Bobby replacement but stronger and a better defender.Fotis St wrote:I read that DaRon Holmes has shut down all workouts because there is a promise in the late 1st Round area. Pels deferring their pick back to LA so they can draft Bronny.
Can’t even hate. Worth it to keep Lebron but Lakers still aren’t doing anything with that core

Wouldn't a faster Al or a strong, better defending Bobby be the #1 overall pick in this draft?

I think Holmes defense has been overrated, but his offense potential is really high. Fits the NBA better than college. He can really attack off the dribble. I'd like him, but is be shocked if we don't move #23.

I agree with that assessment, and would like to add that the smart financial move in this draft would be to stack picks early in round 2.

Stats wise it was pretty simular. One played for a national championsip team and other was not well known.ReasonablySober wrote:msiris wrote:Honestly I don't think this would be a bad pick. I'm not advocating for this, but in past drafts OKC had offered their picks for future picks. Would you offer 2031 for #12?

My first thought was Pat and #12 has to get you Caruso so yeah I'd do it.

Caruso would be awesome here, but to trade the 2031 1st, i might prefer someone younger.

If we’re a second apron team, we can’t trade the 2031 pick, right,

Re: 2024 NBA Draft Thread
Regardless, we shouldn't be dealing our '31 1st. Our future's already bad enough.
Vis a vis Holmes, I forgot about him. Saw him a couple times & he impressed. Would be another good pick. We can't trade this pick either. Have to start getting younger for now, more upside for the future, & getting some useful guys on lower salaries.
I think some are getting caught up in the notion this draft is overall weak, therefore it is where we're at. That assessment is more about the lotto. There's depth in our area & conjuring up another good option like Holmes reinforces it.
I'd actually consider exploiting this perception and trading up for another pick in the 1st rd, using like 33 & Beauchamp. Get a restart on that pick. Take Holmes & Djurisic/Carrington for your swing. Never saw Carrington, but it's an intriguing toolset.

Trading 33 to the Pels for our 1st next year would calm a lot of nerves around here, I bet.

Re: 2024 NBA Draft Thread
We tend to overrate future FRPs, especially our owns. Even if one is down on this year's draft (which I get for the top, but in the mid lottery I think it's fine), the #12 pick this year has far more average outcome than a future first. And with our window being now we're heavily inclined to get value now vs future value. So if the offer was out there, it would be an easy yes from me. Doesn't mean you can't recover future FRPs in the future.

There's lots of conflicting opinions on this. Keith Smart of Spotract stated on Friday that we'd be operating as a 1st apron team.

Getting a good player now would make our future brighter. Holding on to late 1st round picks can be a big mistake.
