Duck dying on that hill and I’m here for it. Couldn’t agree more.
Some shocking takes from some strong posters. Folks going to see what they want to see.
WNBA has been hard to watch for a long time. Scoring being major part. Hacking the whole game is awful to watch. Clean it up and I think it could explode.

Yup. Thankfully no allegiance to the Sky, so I lose nothing by continuing to not follow them.
KC: Do you still think you're a championship-caliber team?

Re: Chicago Sky/WNBA thread 2024
The WNBA is certainly getting alot of attention now but man Caitlin really has to start kicking it in gear.
She was 1-10 tonight.
I mean I am only watching to see what she does. But when her team is so terrible, down big every game, and she plays bad, it's a hard watch.
This is like watching the Pistons lose 28 straight games and saying Jaden Ivey had some nice games in there. No one would say that because no one would really watch or stay interested.
Its not all Caitlin's fault. I dont think her teammates or coach do her any favors. I am starting to think she may kick it in gear next year with a proper gameplan to get her off and better teammates.

Yeah, I’ve probably been kind of unintentionally disrespectful to the purpose of this thread. It’s primarily a Sky thread on a Chicago basketball board and I don’t have a WNBA team that I root for.
So sorry if it seemed as though I was crapping on the Sky specifically. I was really treating this as a general WNBA thread and talking about a league wide issue.

I haven’t really been following the thread. Just noting that I can’t recall a more unlikable Chicago affiliated team. I suppose the Black Sox scandal over a century ago was pretty deplorable.

Re: Chicago Sky/WNBA thread 2024
Its not just about Caitlin either, she is just who brought me to the dance. Now that im here i see flies in the punch bowl, the dance floor is dirty, disco ball got no reflectors...you get the point.
The league now has attention and "alot" of work needs to be done with the product. The Sky couldnt even handle this small (yet blown up) incident; its players and coach should have been able to navigate this with your typical sports talk. Instead you have people refusing to talk to reporters or answer questions. Thats a problem.
If i was commish i would immediately tell my refs to start calling the games to benefit fast breaks. 3 pointers and team passing. Cut down on the physical play and let the leagues most skilled players showcase it. Basically what we saw with the nba 15 or so years ago. And if we get to the point where teams are dropping 150 with ease you can then dial it back.
And then you have the Fever who have played the most games in the league and have not been able to practice. Obviously this was intentional to capitalize on profit. But now you have your money making team looking sloppy and tired because of it.
Caitlin does need to step up but with what i have posted i can see why she is struggling more then she needs to be. Also that one play where Reece hit her in the head was a flop by Caitlin; not a good one either.

Whitlock is such a sellout POS. He’s right about the hate, but no way he writes an article saying the rookie star will quit in 1-3 years due to the mental toll if we were talking about a man. Stay in the echo chamber where you belong, Whit.
he is a gritter race baiter just like jamelle hill and clay travis. They all butter their bread similarly.

She said “I ain’t answering no question about Caitlin Clark” and was about to say more things a 9 year old would say before her coach or teammate stage-left told her to shut up.
But that's in Carter's right to not answer any questions she doesnt want to lol.
Absolutely right. Irrelevant. But correct. Her response and angry refusal to even discuss Caitlyn Clark is her statement of her feelings about Caitlyn Clark. Particularly when coupled with her screaming at her that she's a bitch and knocking her to the ground from behind her back about an hour earlier.
The rest of this post is just that same false equivalency "this happens with touted rookies all the time, ho-hum" stuff I addressed earlier, which is very easily provably untrue. If I'm wrong, please provide the details of the oh so many comparable situations that don't date back to days of overt racism against blacks and gays.
This hostility is atypical and we all know it.
Again, she has those feelings because of the play that happened before the shove, which I pointed out. Carter is known for being quick to be aggressive anyway, but I also stated she needs to control herself.
Most of the established players on the Cavs hated Bron and wanted to put him in check his rookie year. The Sparks and Shock got into a huge brawl Candace Parker's rookie year (and I believed she was involved in fray). Are we really gonna act like teams dont target rookies in matchups and some vets get chippy with them to get in their head?

Re: Chicago Sky/WNBA thread 2024
Clark would be doing fine if she could make her 3s. Sure, she's committing too many turnovers, but a rookie PG on a bad team will do that. She's racking up assists and boards, defending pretty well, is making her 2s, and drawing some foul calls. All great stuff for a PG in her first 11 games. But man, she cannot make her 3s. I don't know whether that is because she is being forced into considerably more difficult shots than when in college, or she is choking, or both. But that is a big problem ... she's shooting 29.7% on 3s, which is brutal. You can get Vuc to do that.

What is the source of your dislike? A single shove? Or something else?

What’s sad, and I saw another person on YouTube comments say the same…this is the first time I’ve ever heard of Chennedy. It will be difficult to ever think of her as anything other than a villain.

and yeah, maybe if someday she offered some statement that she got over-heated as a competitor, didn’t mean anything personal to Clark (even if she did in the moment), bla bla bla, that would help.

Carter is a known locker room problem.
However, she's a heck of a value signing by the Sky. Actually has juice as a guard which is very rare in WNBA.

Well, apologies for these sorts of things tend not to be forthcoming. Diana Taurasi and Alyssa Thomas haven't apologized, and Dennis Rodman wouldn't either. Maybe she should just embrace the villain role then. Personally, I'll be cheering for her when I'm in attendance tomorrow night - not because of the shove, but because she's a very exciting player.
Also, I must say that CC is not some pure, delicate flower - and that's the reason I still like her as a player, despite the nauseating toxicity that follows her around everywhere.

They way the women are screwing this up is that they don't seem to understand that while they compete on the court, they make money together at the negotiating table. There is a definite streak of pettiness/jealousy that is actually self-defeating.
In the NBA, the superstar class basically subsidizes a very well-off middle class b/c of how max salaries work. Clark is the first women player that has a stardom level capable of actually getting the salaries to respectability. Instead of embracing that, a whole lot of the WNBA players have acted like crabs in a barrel.

I mostly watch parts (and some big chunks) of Indy games, but try catching some minutes of better teams. Watching the champ Aces is like night and day compared to the Fever.

Who are these players, and how have they acted? You just said Carter was a problem before CC entered the league.

Why outside of the Carter incident? Angel? I didn’t really like her at first getting way over sensitive about Clark not guarding some bad shooter that wasn’t even on LSU, then following it up with the don’t see me whatever. The backlash to that was way over the top though. Someone like me “didn’t like” her but many came with pure vitriol.
But she has definitely grown on me, and I’m actually a fan now. She has come off as generally bright and respectful to the game and other players in interviews I’ve seen, but more importantly, seems to play her butt off in the little I’ve watched. Maybe a little Noah-like in that she’s not afraid to talk and stir the pot a little, but then puts it out there grinding on the court.
Ah, man…I just saw that she was up clapping for the Chennedy foul. Step forward, step back.
