Pelicans Expected To Pursue Trade Scenarios On Trae Young, Dejounte Murray, Darius Garland

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Sun Jun 2, 2024 2:53 am

The New Orleans Pelicans are expected to engage the Cleveland Cavaliers and Atlanta Hawks on trade talks this offseason as they look to upgrade their lead guard position.

The Hawks are expected to trade either Trae Young or Dejounte Murray this offseason, while the Cavaliers could also entertain offers on Darius Garland if they sign Donovan Mitchell to an extension.

The Pelicans engaged both the Cavaliers and Hawks ahead of the February deadline.

Zion Williamson had interest in joining Trae Young with the Hawks ahead of the lottery in 2019 and there could be mutual interest in playing together now with the Pelicans.

This actually helps both teams. I would tell the Pelicans to also throw in a first rounder or two. BI has been banged up the last two seasons and they could potentially lose him in free agency next off season.

Looks like the pels are trying to get something out of the AD trade before they squander every asset. What a disaster

How about Jordan Hawkins instead?

Intriguing but not good enough for the Hawks considering you could probably trade DM for Ingram straight up if their salaries matched.

Agreed. Trae for Ingram, Daniels and a protected FRP would be more realistic

Ignorant take here

Pels got Herb jones, CJ McCollum, and Nance Jr. out of those assets.

Hunter was traded for Herb pick and Alexander-Walker.

Alexander-Walker bundled with Hart for CJM and Nance.

It's hardly a disaster; Herb and CJ are 2 of their 4 best players.

Plus they are better; they won 115 games in AD's last 3 seasons combined vs. 127 in the last 3 without AD

That’s an awful return for AD. How many playoff wins have they got out of that? I remember everyone saying the Pels won the trade. The draft picks ended up being Hayes, Alexander, Louzada, Daniel’s and jones. That’s a disaster

Is Capela still valued as a plus asset for you if you were to draft Sarr though? I feel like you've been trying to get Okongwu minutes for multiple seasons now and with Capela on an expiring deal, I just figured he'd be an easy piece to lose to bring in a better fitting, equally talented piece. Maybe you could add a protected pick or Jordan Hawkins or something like that.

Don't crow too soon buddy, they still have another pick owed to them in 2025 and it would not surprise many if it is an early lottery pick. Seeing as though Lebron will continue to decline at 40 (which tends to happen exponentially the older you get) and AD is liable to miss half a season at any given time.

Of course he is. He's lost a half of step, but he's still a very good rebounder and shot blocker, double double type player that will continue to give good value on his next contract if its the same or lower amount. No way should he be considered just an expiring contract even if we do draft Sarr.

Even if the pels had a lotto pick they’ll find a way to fumble the ball again. Case in point Hayes, Alexander-walker and Dyson Daniels. What makes you think any different??? Smh

This is an even worse take.

Name me a deal where a player forced a trade and got a better haul.

Typically it's late round picks or worse FRPs that never convey and convert to 2RPs

Herb Jones is about as good as you can get as a 3+D

CJ is very good starter -- maybe even a 1x AS if timing/injuries shake out differently.

Nance is a solid rotation player on any team.

It's almost impossible to "win" a trade where the best player demands out (barring injury), but this is as close as we've seen a team come.
