Re: Build a Franchise (Season 7) Discussion thread continued (Announcement on page 85)
Now that I got a chance to sit back and digest the 3peat have some thoughts.
Obviously nothing beats your 1st chip. So that one holds a special place at the top for me...especially beating two of the most stacked rosters in that 2021-22 season. To get to the finals to have to go through another 70+ win team in Smash/Blazers was a battle. I think the best roster to have not win a chip. Then to knock off the prior year champs who were trying to repeat with Melo/Cavs. That one was special.
2nd one I think was won in the offseason. I lost Mikal to FA which I knew I couldn't bring all 3 back. But to retain the 1-2 punch of Jokic and Curry and then having enough good low cost depth and timely moves (Haliburton for Bane to get more defense in my backcourt, Clarke offseason trade, along with the Draymond + Mitch Robinson (congrats on Wemby 2010) in season trade) I think secured the b2b chips.
The 3rd one didn't start off as smoothly. Built what I thought was a very good team. Didn't start off as well. CHI and GS got off to great starts and I kinda reviewed my team and the differences and felt we wouldn't be able to be in that convo without improving our defense big time.
Curry/Caruso
Bane
Jaden McDaniels/Cam Johnson
MPJ
Jokic/Looney
was my 8 man to start the year. I got the sense defense and depth was playing a big role in the SIM this year. So while IRL I wouldn't have made some of these moves I had to pivot.
ended up with
Caruso/Delon Wright
Curry/Hart
Cam Johnson/Kuminga
Jokic
Claxton/Kessler
9 man rotation. Really tried to surround Jokic/Curry with more defense and physicality and depth and it seemed to work. My defense shot into a top 10 defense to finish the year...rebounding sky rocketed...while maintaining my #1 offense.
Finished the year really strong and then went 12-0 in the western conference playoffs beating my boy Clarke in round 1, and then two big time WC foes in LAC (who just swept Utah in 4 games) and DAL (who took down one of the OG's NE and his #1 defense in 5 games).
Then finishing the deal with a surging Cavs team from the play-in. Had a strong open to that series with winning the first two games by a combined 54 pts. Hated that Bam went down in game 3 obviously that made the series even more lopsided. Melo kept battling which doesn't surprise me, and hats of to him on his run.
Whats next? Who knows. Try to win without the Jokic/Curry pairing?

2010 ranks pretty high on my maneuver list, but you traded so many players in the last 2 years, but still maintained dominance is not easy. So Salute.

Appreciate it!
Its much more likely to be Curry than Joker. Due to age factor.
But yeah those two basically have been my foundational pieces and the rest while I have had a lot of other good players have all been interchangeable contributing players on good moveable contracts so that I can kinda feel out the roster and then make necessary moves.
Outside of like MPJ who was on my roster for the first two chips...I don't think I have any other players outside of Curry/Jokic that have had multiple chips...all have been single for each team.
Haliburton/Mikal/MPJ/Hunter/Boucher were my rotational pieces for the 1st one.
Bane/MPJ/Draymond/Mitch/Clarke/Gary Payton were my rotation pieces for the 2nd one.
Caruso/Cam Johnson/Hart/Claxton/Kessler/Kuminga were my rotational pieces this year.

It just would be tough. There is probably only one other big that replicates his production in Embiid. So maybe that would be the one player I would consider moving Jokic for but than you also got to factor in Jokic durability (knocks on wood). I think I have been relatively healthy and there is no science to this, probably some luck as well. But Jokic avg 34 mins and Curry 32 mins in the regular season (some due to blowouts ect). And in the playoffs I try to keep there minutes somewhat reasonable as well.
I think it was last year I put Jokic at 40 mins and he got banged up in the POR series in the playoffs...so I just stopped trying to give guys 40 mins because of that. Again could be luck or could have some impact on the playoffs recovery/endurance health.

Much props to mph but now I want what he has! But not to get too far ahead, cuz goal #1 is to make it out of the East next season.

Hornets better make sure that lil $185 their GM got goes a long way. Cuz if he plan on just running it back and not moving any of the Ants, then it just might be another long golfing season for him (again).
I know I got ousted in the 1st round too, but fr fr, I wasn’t even really supposed to be there. We just arrived ahead of schedule.
But that man team was supposed to be the top of the class in the East and he choked! But I was glad Melo got him for overlooking him. Major props to Melo for taking out the trash.

Melo
Melo had a great season even with the injury...I was on a 22-6 I believe (don't feel like doing the math again)
after I stopped experimenting with line-ups and settled in to my first real season aiming for the play-offs.
Then my most productive player goes down(Barnes)...Then Green went down during a crucial 5 game stretch which put me on my first 5 game losing street at the worst time. I was 4th in the league with not many games to go.
Then for the icing on the cake Ball goes down
I still managed 46 wins but I didnt have Barnes in the play-offs...
Brooklyn also lost Butler and IQ...AD went down in game three when they were up 2-0...
There are more but I don't remember them...
Mel -from the play in- won the east and faced a SAS team that was destined to win it all...
At least Mel got to add another east chip to his belt. He exceeded his own expectations for the season I'm sure...
Salute to Mel -fine tuning with limited cap, winning the east and making the finals...
