"The Raptors’ front office long harbored an affinity for Porziņģis, and Toronto was one of the teams on his preferred list of trade destinations away from New York," Yahoo's Jake Fischer wrote.
At the time, ESPN insider Bobby Marks told Zach Lowe that he thought Porzingis was going to be traded to Toronto before the Raptors eventually opted to go in another direction and send Dragic and a first-round pick to the San Antonio Spurs for Thad Young and a second-round pick.
Somehow, this trade keeps getting worse
The cascading effects of this are kinda nuts to think about. We get tingus, we don't trade our pick for Jak, maybe we keep Siakam/FVV. Interesting butterfly effect to think about.
Man I must be missing something about Thad. About ten years too late imo .

There was more to the deal. Porzingis was making 31 million in 21/22, 33 in 22/23 and had a player option for 36 million this season I believe. Dragic was earning 18 million in 21/22 I think. So the Raps would have had to make up a lot more salary than just Dragic for one (best case Boucher and Birch I think, worst case OG or Trent), and we'd also be way into the tax for the last few years. The main point of the Thad deal was to avoid that.
9. Similarly, IF THOU HAST SPENT the entire offseason predicting that thy team will stink, thou shalt not gloat, nor even be happy, shouldst thou turn out to be correct. Realistic analysis is fine, but be a fan first, a smug smarty-pants second.
