I am looking at the images of him rollingon the ground in pain, and I couldn't help laughing for 10 mins. Anyway, Carter was kind of influential for Toronto. He had a cool dunk or two. Cheers to him.
I acknowledge and thank the lək̓ʷəŋən peoples of the Songhees, Esquimalt and W̱SÁNEĆ First Nations for allowing me to live, work and play on their unceded traditional territories.

It's always funny to me that we're going to probably retire his jersey here when someone like Carmelo stayed for longer with Denver, had more success with Denver, had a less ugly departure (Nuggets definitely got more out of the trade request) and yet ownership was very much of the opinion that no, we're not going to put that legacy in the rafters.

I guess they have higher standards. We are the Raptors fanbase, we celebrate losing and Carter allowed us to be recognized by
US media.

As many have mentioned in this thread, Toronto wasn't even on the map and Carter helped give us exposure and validate us Canadians by putting us on American television.

I say put his jersey up there. He didn't represent winning or leadership but did help us to get exposure and be liked by Americans at that time. He put us on the map. Perhaps a future Raptor player will see his jersey up there and use it as a symbolic gesture one day as an inspiration to emulate Carter's leadership, attitude and success.

I think if you line up Team Canada (SGA, Murray, Brooks, Alexander-Walker, Olynyk, etc) at the eventual ceremony, we all would see what VC has done to this Country. I haven't looked, but I'm also willing to bet that most are born and grew up with the GTA, which is not a coincidence. No one remembered the dark times Vancouver is having with Grizzlies, they never found 'VC' and eventually the city lost the team.

Instead we look at how VC behaved for the few months while he asked out, he was probably mid to going to late 20s' and wanted to win, while we drafted Chris Bosh and is looking to retool/rebuild.

I think the way Vince left really makes it hard to retire his jersey. He quit on the team and by his own admission he didn't push himself as hard as he could when he was here.

The extent of any honouring between the Toronto Raptors and Vince Carter will come from Vince when he is inducted into the hall-of-fame and chooses to go in as a Raptors—I'll accept that as an apology but the franchise should never retire his jersey or anything of that sort. If we are going to retire anyone's jersey it should probably be Kawhi's, but that seems a bit ridiculous even though he was the key to us winning a championship.

I would have been more open to him in the rafters had his conduct in the last 5 years been better, but he sold the franchise down the drain with destroying his value and not trying.

Parking, the interview with Dr J, the numbers, no dunking, flares, I could go on.

He does not belong in the rafters.

wegotthabeet wrote:Of course it was an extension. He could have walked at the end of the following year because he would have become an unrestricted free agent. Nothing disingenuous about that. It’s pure facts. Restricted free agency didn’t exist until the 99 cba. Older rookie contracts were grandfathered in. Do your **** homework before ranting.

The 1999 CBA came into effect for the 1998-99 season, there was no grandfathering for Vince since he signed his rookie contract in 1999 after the new CBA came into effect. Vince signed his extension after year 3 and it came into effect for year 5 (year 4 was a team option). Had he not done so, he would have become a RFA after year 4.

don't make **** up.

You are incorrect. The CBA expired at the end of the 1997/98 season and was followed by a lockout, which means that every single new contract signed afterwards had to meet the new 1999 requirements - including Vince's rookie deal. This is exceedingly obvious when you look at the historical salary for everyone drafted in 1997 vs 1998. The former qualified for max contracts after year 3, the latter didn't have that opportunity until after year 4.

Still kinda shocked at Vince's failure to own his part in his forced departure.

Even Damon (who was only with the Raps 2.5 years!) and Tracy eventually came around to some version "yeah, I was young and could've handled it differently".

His fragile ego is more important than fumbling his legacy in the city I guess.

Paskal declared he would not re-up w teams he would be traded to. That is way worse than VC getting traded for dumpster kindling AWil and EWil.

Between Carter, Pascal and Bosh (who was cleared to return from injury but stayed out in the middle of our playoff push in his last season only to finally come back and miss a game winner at the buzzer in our second last game to not make the playoffs lol because he was having himself for South beach).

Scottie will be interesting when the time comes (hope it doesn't)

Worse for who, you? Pascal wanted to be in Toronto and exercised what little leverage a player has when faced with a trade. And this is after a few really rough years.

This is the exact opposite of Vince's behavior.

You can criticize the FO for the timing of his trade if you like, but criticizing Pascal for preferring to be here makes no sense.

Pascal also kept his play up to par while knowing he was being shopped around. Carter deliberately tanked his value to force the issue

I was honestly ambivalent about the whole jersey thing. I wasn't hoping for it but I also wouldn't be too bothered if it happened. But man, his recent remarks make it hard for me to remain unbothered. Even just saying he wish he had acted differently probably would've been enough for a lot of fans

Carter & Bosh's personalities kind of remind me of one another. I found both annoying in one way or another. Both kind of soft momma's-boy types.

Vince did a lot more for the city though (all star games in the summer, repped the city more, etc). Plus he was a legit superstar....whereas Bosh wasn't.

I don't really care if they retire his jersey.....or not. If they choose to though, we as fans have to remember the good times & celebrate those moments. It's the only way to move forward really.

The retirement would be to celebrate the height of his International fame in a Raptors jersey. He is the only true superstar the franchise ever drafted. It was a magical time. He was the leagues new MJ for a brief period. Then things fizzled out & went downhill quickly. It is what it is.

I’ve changed my mind on this. I’d rather not retire it.
not strong, only aggresive cuz the power ain't directed/ that's why, we are subjected to the will of the oppressive
