Re: 2024 NBA DRAFT THREAD 5
I'm really starting to think about Edey as the pick at 19 if he is available.
I think where this guy has come from since he was 15/16 years old to now as a 22 year old and that level of growth and development is insane.
He's going to have ridiculous gravity in the NBA. We saw the impact Gradey had on the perimeter with his gravity in the second half of the season. Imagine the gravity Edey is going to have rolling to the rim. 7'3.25" barefoot, 7'10.75" wingspan, 299 lbs.
There will be match up issues at times, no question. However he is a match up nightmare himself. Also there is the reality he might only play 25-28 minutes per game anyways. Poeltl has only averaged more than 27 minutes per game once (29mpg).
If his ability to hit the 3 is real, and given how he played/his role at Purdue and the fact he only started playing ball at 15/16 years of age and he hits 70%+ from ft line then it might just be, then my interest is suddenly very real.
I guess the question is would you rather plan to strategize with or against Edey? I think I'd rather strategize with.

I just think Edey is matchup dependent weapon who can thrive in certain situations for playoff ready teams. Not what the Raps need right now or even in next two years since Raps are far away from it

He's in play at 19
We know what he is offensively. The shot will swing him and if he can get there hitting like a Brook Lopez, he will have a long career.
He won't have post ups in the NBA but he can operate in the pick and roll and be a fun roller where he can finish or look to pass out (this will also need to be improved upon and how he processes defenses).
But the main thing is how they project him defensively. If they think he's too slow and will get burned, knowing this FO, they prob pass. What's good is that he's a big who loves the game and loves to work. Toronto kid helps

Re: 2024 NBA DRAFT THREAD 5
This is what Bobby meant when he said the same deals would be on the table in the summer. These 2024 picks don’t mean sh*t.
Raps FO will try to pry away a 2025 first from a desperate team but if that’s not available then they’ll settle with the Knicks pick(s).

Bronny getting drafted by the Lakers ensures that someone is dropping to us.

Lakers might want to look at this. They need depth and can offer #17 for #24 & #25.
I probably won't consider this if I was Toronto.

Well, I think it'll come down to who's on the board at that time but if I understand things correctly, #31 can be signed using a second round exception that doesn't count against the cap.
If that's true then unless there's a guy around #24 and #25 that we know won't make it to #31, then I probably wouldn't want to lock up our money into a first round pick.

I don't think his determination and work ethic gets talked about enough. To not only do what he has done in the last 6 years, but to also transform his body like has done, that takes discipline and desire.
He isn't a sure thing by any means, but if an NBA team can put a championship defense around 32 year old Brook Lopez as the Bucks did in 2021, then I'm sure a team could work with Edey. Edey doesn't need to block shots, he just needs to use his frame to make opponents miss shots. Plus, he's a Hoover on the glass.

Could definitely be a rich man's JV on offence. Now, can he make himself a Brook Lopez or Zubac type on Defence. Even a rich mans JV, if he has issues on defence won't close a lot of games against elite playoff teams. Hard to say on him. I wonder if the passing and quickness of decision making can change.

Re: 2024 NBA DRAFT THREAD 5
Edey can be available at 19 and I'd still draft Ware over him. Maybe I'm missing something with Edey, but I've seen it floated around that his "ceiling" can be the best player in the draft.
Where do people rank the bigs in our range?
Ware
Missi
Flipi
Holmes

I still think Dadiet is underrated when compared directly to his peers.
