Re: 2024 NBA Draft Thread
I suppose he could be an end of bench option in the summer league.

He's been a genuinely good player in Eurocup at age 20, which is pretty good, but I can't imagine drafting a young guard who is both doughy and can't shoot FTs.

No chance I'd spend a pick on him, but Nunez would be a priority UDFA for sure.

I joke that he's a Horst pick because he's got big hair like a lot of his picks, but the kid has serious talent. Some really nice flashes defensively and he's got as nice stroke from 3. Pretty decent playmaker for a wing too. I think he ends up going in the late teens, but I'd absolutely consider him if lasts to 23.
I also love that he's played overseas and is used to playing against men....will be helpful during the transition to the NBA

Still not sure how I feel about him as a prospect, but I liked watching him play. We have much higher priorities than the skills that he can offer either way though.

I think it's pretty telling given the only confirmed workouts we've had (Nunez, Dillon Jones, Flowers) are all guys projected in the 2nd round or undrafted. Certainly looking like we'll be picking for someone else at 23.

I will be livid if we trade it for an old slow vet.Ron Swanson wrote:I think it's pretty telling given the only confirmed workouts we've had (Nunez, Dillon Jones, Flowers) are all guys projected in the 2nd round or undrafted. Certainly looking like we'll be picking for someone else at 23.

I would like keep the 23rd pick instead of rolling with a marginal role player.

It could be a smokescreen, or you may be right, which would suck. (not making the pick...and you being right

Re: 2024 NBA Draft Thread
It obviously depends on who it is. If it's Bobby and 23 for Caruso then ugh, whatever. I see the vision but that would be the most underwhelming, telegraphed offseason move you could make. If it's in a larger deal where we're moving a bigger salary piece like Brook in a 3-team deal, then I can get on board assuming you're addressing an immediate AND more long-term solution as opposed to a 1-year band-aid like Caruso. I've maintained for months that they're gonna trade the pick and keep 33 to take the most NBA-ready rookie at that spot (Dunn, Jones, Tyson). I'm fine with the thought process.

I wouldn't read much into it. We haven't publicized who we work out in years and the composition of the reported list has been very similar to what we're seeing now. I can't find who we worked out in 2020 (I can't remember what the process even looked like that year), but the sites we're getting these workout lists from didn't report us having worked out any of the players we've drafted since then.

Re: 2024 NBA Draft Thread
Workouts definitely mean very little, unless you're Herb Kohl & you base your entire decision on it.

I'm really warming up to the idea of drafting McCullar Jr at #33, if he's still on the board. Seems like a good high floor, medium ceiling player who can contribute immediately and develop into a solid starting caliber wing. He reminds me a lot of Nic Batum. Currently he's more of a defensive wing who can finish in transition but has shown improved shooting over his collegiate career.

Re: 2024 NBA Draft Thread
New KOC mock has us taking Bobi Klintman at 23 and Baylor Scheierman at 33.
Kel'el Ware jumps into the top 10.

Klintman kinda does fit Horst's M.O. Older but still raw tools-y guy. Projects as a shooter more in theory than in practice. I see the archetype (Jaden McDaniels), but he's risky. Then again, so was McDaniels as a prospect.

Does he have a ceiling as a role player, while being an old project? Then it truly would fit Horst's prototype prospect.
