I've tried to judge the top players in where'd they go in the 2018/2019/2022 draft cycles.

Sarr might go top-5 in each of those years. He wouldn't sniff #1.

No one else in this draft class comes close IMO. I think that's why it's considered weak.

(Topic and Castle each have an argument to be top-10 in that loaded 2018 draft class.)

That's why I say it's not a weak draft. Very deep. Just no Doncic, Paolo, Chet, Wemby

What's your opinion on Knecht, the fact he's 23 & projected top 3 ?

I was on the Spurs board & he's who they seem to be interested in. I found it weird in that, Spurs just started their rebuild but are picking an advanced player in this draft.

Kid might be worth a deep dive.

His passing is pretty incredible. At 6'7", he makes passes that no one on this team is currently capable of.

His weaknesses are glaring (considering what we have currently - bad perimter defense, inconsistent 3pt shooting, ball dominant, not athletic).

This is a fact.

He wouldn't be able to play alongside Trae.

Might he be an above average backup and then ultimate replacement? :dontknow:

One PLUS: He's an elite PnR ballhandler. So theoretically, he could slide right in to the PG role based on scheme and personnel.

Sarr or Zacch will be the pick so nobody else feels like working out. It's fine.

It's like we never learn..... Tiago Splitter, Speedy Claxton, DJ.....we always seem to get the short end of the stick. Moral of the story....stop trading with SAS.

I knew it. We're gonna blow it. Wouldn't surprise me if Trae is the one who gets traded as well instead of DJM. Trae and Sarr will both be more successful than whatever we decide to do, and we'll be waiting for 2028 to blow it all up. Hopefully JJ will be able to help jump start the next rebuild by landing us some strong picks to go with our own.

There's no possible way we move this pick.

I'd like to see us acquire the Spurs pick if there's something that can be worked out that doesn't involve the first overall pick.

Alex Sarr...has issues, guys. There's a reason Hawks seem reluctant to name him the guy.

I expect that he will still go #1. But he's a very flawed player. (And is likely to play the same position as Jalen moving forward.)

Unless we are parlaying one of those picks into a real NBA player upgrade for the starting lineup - not interested adding two rookies.
How young (nba experience) are we trying to get?
Last time we had two lottery picks (Hunter and Reddish) how'd that work out?

Against trading down when you have the #1 pick? Absolutely. This isn't rocket science.

Yep. And with the #1 pick, the Hawks should be more focused on upside than downside. I'm all for hearing arguments that other players have more upside than Sarr, but the only ones remotely convincing at this point are Topic and Holland.

Like you said, if they decide they don't want to gamble on upside, they should trade the pick for an established starter at a position of need.

Which is why two flawed players is better than one flawed player...

Especially at lower salaries.

That's an argument for minimizing risk, which doesn't really match how talent tends to be distributed among NBA players (i.e., top-heavy).

Most draft value charts for the NBA look something like this:

As you can see, there's a steep drop-off right away. Trading down from the top of the draft for multiple picks is strategically akin to giving up the chance to win a quarter for the chance to win two dimes.
