I disagree. McCain put up better freshman stats than Ben Gordon did. Ben was a stumpy 6th man, drafted after a college championship junior year where he only put up 18 5 and 5 on great shooting splits. That's less than KJ Simpson in overall numbers and impact.
Ben got drafted third, but would go around 10th in a re-draft.
No chance that player type goes number 1.
18/5/5 with great shooting splits on one of the best college teams of all time, measured 6-2 with a 6-9 wingspan, and a 38" vertical at the combine. He would definitely be in play for #1 overall in this draft.
Disagree. Ben was an over draft in his draft class (objectively - with hindsight), and a poor defensive PG.
Rob Dillingham put up a better freshman season than Ben, one comparable to Ben's Junior year, and he's not seriously being considered for no.1.
They both have the small microwave scorer archetype.
Ben never became a great playmaker IMO. He was also a poor defender. Killer bucket getter tho, and deserving of a lottery pick.
I take issue with people saying this is a poor class, so a top pick in a different class is automatically a top choice in this class.
I think when you actually look at historic drafts (like 2004) you'll see that after the generational top prospect (Dwight), the talent is pretty much comparable to what you see in this draft (obviously projected). Like, a junior guard putting up 18-5-5, that went on to be a 6th man of the year winner and a stellar rotation player (but NOT a star, and clearly a player with real warts), who would be picked at ~10 in a 2004 redraft, DOES compare to guys that will be taken in the 6-13 range in this draft.
The value isn't too different. No headline Wemby like talent, but there's definitely a number of players that look like they will be Ben Gordon type players (again IMO).
