Towns to Knicks: 3 way with Toronto

Post#1 » by islandboy53 » Thu Jun 6, 2024 4:17 pm

This draft night proposal is as follows. Both the Knicks and Timberwolves need to send out more salary than they take in, so a third team is needed. The deal is agreed to in principle at the draft and finalized after the moratorium, when Towns' new salary has kicked in. Note that Alexander-Walker is included to ensure Minnesota's outgoing $ are larger than incoming. He could be replaced by Moore Jr plus one of Minott or Miller.

New York: in - Towns
: out - Randle, Bogdanovic, #24, 25 Mil 1st, 27 NY 1st

Minnesota: in - Randle, Brown, 25 Mil 1st, 27 NY 1st
: out - Towns, Alexander-Walker

Toronto: in - Bogdanovic, Alexander-Walker, #24
: out - Brown

The Knicks get their 3rd star for a relatively modest cost. Minnesota replaces Towns with Robinson, Brown and McBride, while adding salary flexibility and draft assets. Toronto is compensated for Brown and for facilitating the deal.

What?

Toronto turns Brown into a comparable but cheaper player in Bogs, and NAW and #25?

Toronto makes out like bandits here.

Minnesota also can't aggregate salary, so the deal is illegal for them.

This is wildly good for TOR.

Brown is worth 2 SRP.

A few thoughts on the proposed trade. First, I see virtually no chance that the Wolves would have any interest in trading Towns for Randle without massive additional compensation (2 late 1sts don't even get a conversation started). Second, why are the Raptors in the deal? They are stealing a huge amount of value and I'm skeptical that the Wolves would even want Brown over NAW.

This is wildy tilited to the Dinos. There's no way they get this much for BB.
