LeBron James Encouraged Lakers To Hire Head Coach With Long-Term Beyond Him In Mind

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Thu Jun 6, 2024 3:48 pm

The Los Angeles Lakers' decision to target Dan Hurley as their next head coach aligns both with what they want to accomplish long-term and the message LeBron James sent to them about his future with the franchise as he nears the end of his career. James informed the Lakers that their next head coach would have to be one that was also a good fit after his exit.

"When this process started for the Lakers when they dismissed Darvin Ham, they obviously spoke to LeBron about the coaching situation," said Brian Windhorst. "From what I understand, what LeBron said to them was, 'You have to hire somebody who is for beyond just me. I might be here for another year. I might be here for two years. You've got to make a decision that's built around Anthony Davis. That's built around what the Lakers need for the next decade, not just what I need.'

"Certainly, his feelings on the head coach are going to be taken into account, but that's the message LeBron gave them. This type of hire this type of going for this type of candidate aligns with that.

"Secondly, LeBron has praised Dan Hurley and his acumen very recently in public especially after this podcast he did with J.J. Redick. It is incredibly ironic that he just did a podcast right after [Hurley] won the second national title in a row with J.J. talking about X's and O's, talking about where he gets some of his creativity, talking about how he's morphed as a coach. And I do think that is going to be received positively by LeBron.

"Any coaching person any anybody that the Lakers were looking for in this hire is going to be some level of a risk because there wasn't a bonafide highly proven NBA coach sitting there. The only coach that was really out there that met that criteria was Mike Budenholzer. The Suns moved in on that very quickly and made that hire.

"Whoever the Lakers were going to hire, they were going to have to step out a little bit of their comfort zone. So that's one of the reasons why you saw J.J. Redick's name attached to it, because they were looking for somebody who had very high potential yeah so if you're going to take a you're going to make a high risk hire, which any coach who never been a head coach in the NBA would be what you want is a high reward. Dan Hurley is a high reward type situation."

And it should be a surprise to no one since there is no way the trolls can twist this against Lebron that after almost 2 hours there's 0 comments. Usually there would be multiple people crying about Lebron using their lame nicknames for him.

Don't actually understand Lebron hate (although I see it everywhere)

The guy literally became everything and more that was placed on his shoulders at 16-17

And has somehow hung on longer than Kareem, Mailman, Moses and Stockton -- which means he put the effort into maximizing his talent and maintaining peak physique and health.

He doesn't think the earth is flat

He's not a criminal (Mailman, JKidd) or even an accused criminal (Eagle, Colo)

Isn't lazy in the offseason (Shaq)

Doesn't disrespect the game (Iverson practice)

Barely any off the court vices (No Kemp/Baker stuff or MJ/Barkley gambling)

Seems to respects and take a real interest in other athlete peers (women's game, golf, tennis, baseball, former NBA guys)

All I can come up with is he's gotten lazier on defense in his late stages and he flops?

Which stacked up against everything else, just seems petty to read all the attacks

Always believes he's the smartest guy in the room when he clearly isn't. (Don't even start with BBIQ!)
Perpetually takes credit when things are good and throws his teammates/coaches under the bus when they aren't.
There is simply a level of arrogance that is hard to stomach.

In my case, I wouldn't call it hated as much as... just shut up already! People give Kawhi a hard time for never having anything to say. Kawhi quit on two teams and is never healthy in the playoffs and still nobody hates him the way people hate Lebron. That's because Kawhi keeps his mouth shut. The Media doesn't make it all about Lebron; Lebron makes it all about Lebron. We should be talking about how BOS will try and defend Luca and Lebron is out there making it about him again. We have no idea what Kawhi is doing or how he feels about Lue's new contract. If Lebron just disappeared every summer we would all like him a whole lot more. :D

I wasn't crying. Puja21 asked a question and I tried to answer it as honestly as possible. If that inspires you to call me names... it might be a "you" problem.

Kendrick Perkins definitely at fault for this one

Lebron was asked and answered

Perk also the guy who said he's a better defender than Gobert recently

RE: smartest guy in the room
The carrying around and pretending to read books he clearly hasn't read (always holding it open to the first chapter) is a bit silly.
I'm sure he sees it as branding.

Again all this is very low on my personal "unlikability" scale -- Kyrie far higher on that list for me

I agree with almost all of this. Perk really shouldn't be taken seriously. He wasn't an important basketball player and he is even less of an important member of the media. So why does he have access to Lebron in the summer?... because Lebron wants to be heard.

And yes, I would classify Lebron as unlikable as opposed to Kyrie, who is actively disliked. (Two completely different levels.) Hate is too strong a word for anyone I haven't personally met.
