So we now have the 12th and 94th wealthiest people in the world as part of the Lore/ARod group.

They will have Ballmer level capital to use, it's insane to even think of.
That would assume the ARod group will get control over the team instead of Taylor. Or is having Bloomberg means Taylor is going to lose the lawsuit?

Re: BREAKING: Timberwolves restructure with Tim Connelly
I love reading this:
“ Together, the consortium is moving forward with plans to pay the luxury tax next season and beyond, league sources said, if that is what is recommended by president of basketball operations Tim Connelly to support a team that made the Western Conference finals for the first time in 20 years.”
So what about that “projection” from Lore / ARod that Taylor clearly leaked with the payroll below the 2nd apron?
Not a “plan”. Just BS spin from Taylor.

Bloomberg doesn’t impact the arbitration.

I think this is a really good video:

Great video thanks. Just watched the whole thing. Seems like all of this means Taylor is just being a colossal dick.
A relevant Canis comment on that video:
Statechamp82
Interesting video. That dude clearly has some competitive high school speech experience, I can hear the familiar structure of a HS extemp speech in there.
I am a lawyer, albeit not a sports lawyer, and I've read the sale agreement closely. The guy's conclusion is correct: the contract has a 90 day extension for NBA approval, and if as alleged Lore/Arod submitted a fully funded proposal to the NBA for approval before the deadline, the extension is automatic. Lore/Arod will end up owning the team.
Connolly certainly knows who is likely to win the ownership dispute. I read the extension of his option as confidence that Lore/Arod will take control by the end of next season. If Connolly thought Glen was going to win, he'd pull the plug now - his NBA job prospects have never been higher than there are right now.
It is interesting that some feels the Gobert trade is really bad and yet some are talking Connelly is the best GM free agent. Which one is it? Can it be both?

Re: BREAKING: Timberwolves restructure with Tim Connelly
It’s interesting that Lore / ARod are working toward a new stadium and TV provider for the Wolves.
I haven’t heard anything from Taylor regarding these critical pieces of infrastructure.
To me, that’s an indicator that Taylor really just wants more money for his sale via arbitration.
I just can’t believe a word Taylor ever says.

Re: BREAKING: Timberwolves restructure with Tim Connelly
Bloomberg news and timing of it seems like it would point towards Lore/Arod having a pretty strong case for the deal to go through and now Bloomberg clears up any concern the league board of governors might have over the financial backing of the team. Some still thought that would be a real hurdle even if Lore/Arod won don’t think that’s the case anymore.

Re: BREAKING: Timberwolves restructure with Tim Connelly
Lore and Rodriguez have said throughout the ordeal that the money to complete the third tranche purchase for majority control is all ready to go. That $600-plus million would be used to bring their holdings to 80 percent of the franchises while also buying out all of Taylor’s limited partners. That would leave Taylor with a final 20 percent stake in the franchise that they could buy anytime before March 2025.
Adding Bloomberg to the group would allow them to go forward immediately with a final $300-plus million investment to buy out Taylor rather than waiting until the end of next season, league sources said, if things break in their favor.

In fact, Taylor is on recent record as saying Target Center is just fine.

Right.
The only arena older than ours is Madison Square Garden.
What are you smoking, Taylor?!

Yea the Wolves need a new stadium soon. If Lore and Arod offer to pony up most of the money I'm all for it. If it's a situation like what the Carolina Panthers is trying to do, that won't fly

I think they know we feel that way.
Maybe Lore’s best move will be investing in Minnesota.

These guys can't even buy the team on their own and you think they are going to self-finance an arena?
I'm going to be incredibly disappointed if Taylor just settles for more money after all of this.
But it would be a Glen thing to do.

Re: BREAKING: Timberwolves restructure with Tim Connelly
Not surprised Connelly hedging his bets and kicking the decision down the road.
I don't think he is quite as hot a candidate as you all think he is.
We made the conference finals this year, but that Gobert trade is still not a great thing to have on his resume.
He made one really good trade (Conley/D-Lo).
Draft picks haven't been good. One decent MLE signing, Milton/Brown was a bust last summer and so was trading for Morris.
Him having an opt out next summer means he probably goes all in on this year,
meaning big KAT trade probably unlikely this summer.
But in the West, staying at the same level is probably going to mean going backwards with so many teams getting better.
memphis, spurs, pelicans, OKC all young and likely to be better next year, and all the other contenders still going for it.

You hope Glen continues to own the team?

I want Glen to own the team until a better option emerges.
Lore/Arod and whoever else buys in with them are absolutely not it.

Well, nothing is certain, but the franchise must look more attractive now, right?

From an investment view, wolves are more expensive then they were 3 years ago but they still need a new stadium

I suppose I should also mention that when the last two owners died in Portland and New Orleans, the wives have kept the teams.
Return to Minnesota Timberwolves
