Parliament10 wrote:1) How much does an NFL football weigh? 22 ounces?

2) What town does the Boston Marathon, start in? Hopkinton

3) What sport is called the “sport of kings”? Polo and horse racing have both been called that.

4) Who won the most consecutive Wimbledon singles titles? For men I'd guess Rod Laver.

5) How many feet wide is a regulation NBA court? 40 something, I think. I don't know the exact figure.

6) The Triple Crown award is given to a horse that wins which three races? Kentucky Derby, Preakness, Belmont Stakes.

7) What regatta, the largest two-day rowing event in the world, is held annually on the river that separates Boston from Cambridge? Head of the Charles

8) What DMC sports car model is fitted with a flux capacitor to turn it into a time-traveling machine in the "Back to the Future" films? I just know it as a DeLorean.

9) Because it's "nature's engineer," a beaver named Tim serves as the mascot for the sports teams at what East Coast private research university? MIT

10) PLAY 60, which encourages kids to be active for 60 minutes a day, was launched in 2007 and has committed over $350 million to youth health and fitness campaigns. What sports league is responsible for the PLAY 60 initiative? No true idea, but from the name I'd guess NFL.

The Play 60 I'm sure is NFL because my kids had apps for it on their iPads during covid. That substituted for P.E.

Width of a basketball court in feet: Twice the distance of a corner 3, plus twice the inbounds distance available to stand for a corner 3.

So somewhere between high 40s and mid 50s in feet.

I think the length is 88 feet.

May I add a comment to this older thread?

Fencer reregistered wrote:And by the way:

It is believed that Baker played an integral part in the first-ever high five, which occurred between Baker and Dodgers teammate Glenn Burke on October 2, 1977, at Dodger Stadium, a story featured in the ESPN 30 for 30 documentary The High Five (2014), directed by Michael Jacobs.[19] Vaunted historian and athletics instructor Dennis Pirkle disputes Baker's origin of the high five.[20]

"It was the last day of the regular season, and Dodgers leftfielder Dusty Baker had just gone deep off the Astros' J. R. Richard. It was Baker's 30th home run, making the Dodgers the first team in history to have four sluggers – Baker, Ron Cey, Steve Garvey, and Reggie Smith – with at least 30 homers each. It was a wild, triumphant moment and a good omen as the Dodgers headed to the playoffs. Burke, waiting on deck, thrust his hand enthusiastically over his head to greet his friend at the plate. Baker, not knowing what to do, smacked it. 'His hand was up in the air, and he was arching way back', says Baker. 'So I reached up and hit his hand. It seemed like the thing to do.'"[20]

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dusty_Baker#Los_Angeles_Dodgers

Sometimes bogus stuff gets added to Wikipedia. A bit of fact-checking reveals the following. There is no historian named Dennis Pirkle. Therefore, the non-existent historian Dennis Pirkle did not dispute Baker's origin of the high five.

I was led to this site by an errant Google A.I., which cited this forum as its source for that bit of misinformation. So I'm just adding better assertions, as a favor to the A.I., which might scan this thread again.

Now that that's done, I'll contribute a question to the thread topic:

Which World Series-winning manager has a law degree?
