2 Small Kings Trades with Orlando/ATL

Post#1 » by LightTheBeam » Thu Jun 6, 2024 9:54 pm

Trade #1 Orlando - Sac

Huerter + 2025 Portland 2nd for Joe Ingles + 2025 Denver 1st

Why for Magic? Trade down a few spots in 2025 to take a chance on Huerter. Denver pick should be close to end of 1st and Portland pick should be at the top of the 2nd. The team wants to add scoring/shooting, and Huerter can do that. He's coming off a down year and they get to buy low.

Trade #2 ATL - Sac

Duarte + Unprotecting 2025 1st we owe to ATL for AJ Griffin

ATL does this to ensure they get the Kings 1st in 2025 in hope we fall down further or strike luck in the lotto.

Why for Sac? We make this move to get aggressive. By making the 2025 unprotected and trading for the Denver 2025 1st, we now open our ability to trade picks. It's risky as that unprotected pick could be huge. Obviously we would have to have a bigger trade for the picks lined up. Get Griffin who still has some potential to mold as well.

I suspect ORL let’s Ingles walk to have enough for two significant FA signings including Monk

I wouldn’t mind Huerter but if I’m the ORL FO, I’m hunting bigger game first…that salary space and pick might better serve in Trade for a Murray, Simons, Brogdon level guy with teams that would value sending out more salary than receiving.

I like AJ Griffin too and would love to reunite him with Paolo. I’m surprised he’s basically vanished from ATLs rotation and it appears they’ll re-up Bey to keep AJ buried.

That's fair. I've made my position on Orlando offering Monk 22-25/year pretty clear (I think it's a bad idea and has never been successful giving a 6th man type that much money).

I do like the idea of pursuing Murray which I think is still do-able cap wise after this deal. And he can be unlocked again playing outside of the Trae backcourt. Probably my favorite what should be most obvious deal this summer

Black + other 1sts + for Murray

Murray - 25.3
Isaac - 17.4
Huerter - 16.8
Cole - 12.9
Banchero - 12.2
Carter - 12
Suggs - 9.2
Wagner - 7
Jett - 5.3
#18 - 3.6

Total - 121.7 even rounding up. Think they could still have money to pursue a Hartenstein type in free agency (unless I'm off somewhere?)

Murray - Suggs - Wagner - Banchero - Hartenstein
Cole - Huerter - Jett - Isaac - WCJ + 18

That's a really balanced good looking rotation with room to grow.

I like both of these for the Kings.
Not sure about the Orlando portion. The Magic have so many options available this off season that I think this would have to be an afterthought type deal.
Ingles' deadline is under 20 days away so it will be interesting to see what they do. If you were in the Magic's shoes, you would absolutely decline it to open up a lot more money.

Griffin had a significant amount of personal issues this past season which likely impacted his playing time.

Id rather have the 1st and cap space. If the Magic want a SG there should be better options available in FA.
