Claxton? then maybe package mitch, bogeys contract and picks for a 1-2 like Dejonte Murray.

OKC won’t go after him because they will need to pay their guys soon and can’t have Ihart’s eating up cap space. They’re a small market team that won’t go above any tax apron

THIS!

Also, a team like OKC would offer around $20M, while the KNICKS can offer around $17M. It's doubtful iHart would uproot his life and leave the big stage in NYC over $3 million.

My guess is he's staying.

The fact that this is a winning situation should bode well for us. Unless some team is willing to give him crazy money, we should be able to keep him.

Markenen at 18M can be that stretch 5 and/or 4 for us. IHart can be the size 5 rim protector.

Detroit may be stupid enuf to give him 80-90m over 4 yrs.Orlando could also be in the mix. my point is
ihart could leave and that would make the 5 the top priority after OG this off season

That can pass and play defense too, right? We kinda have that combination in Mitch and iHart ... but Thibs needs to unleash Mitch from 3.

Seriously, how many centers shoot from 3? Lopez, Jokic, Porzingas, Embiid, AD. Who else am I missing?

That's what I was thinking.

First, we have to define "big time".
To me, that says "star", and the only big time shooter/defenders who fit that description are probably Kawahi and Paul George.

OR

Big time shooter, really good defender means a knock down shooter, defender, which is 3&D guy.
Bridges? Hardly a "big time shooter" He's good, but not to get that title.

There, the list gets longer.
But not so long that teams just want to deal away one of the most valuable pieces in today's NBA.

Trey Murphy III?
And so on.

Why would teams trade such a player?

We all know it's just typical RR trolling

I suspect we are not going to pick Bojan"s option (assuming we are not making a big trade before the end of the season).

I think he is not going to be a great salary filler in a trade for a star player although his contract is an expiring 19M contract. Its bad money. He is 35 and not an agile defender. Teams will charge a FRP only to dump his large contract.

We can use a combination of better contracts to serve as a filler (assuming we will respect the second tier and can aggregate contracts in a trade).

For instance, we can give Precious 7M/y, Bojan 7M/y, and Burks 5M/y.

We can also contract a good player with:
Full MLE (13M while being hard capped into the first apron - limit 179M if cap projection stays the same).
BAE (4,5M while being hard capped into the first apron - limit 179M if cap projection stays the same)
Tax MLE (5M while being hard capped into the first apron - limit 189M if cap projection stays the same)

Who would be nice MLE targets (between 5M and 13M Max) - He should be a very nice addition because we will be hard-capped into the first apron (179 if the cap stays the same) if we get him.

Candidates FA: Melton, Lowry, KCP (?), JV, Gordon Hayward, Buddy Hield, Fultz, Malik Beasley, Oubre, Garry Harris, Monte Morris, SloMo, Okoro (RFA), Caleb Martin, Jalen Smith, Derrick Jones Jr, Obi Toppin (RFA).

We can use the MLE on a trade as a filler and trade our picks for a player earning around 10M.
Under contract targets: Caruso, Olynik, Steven Adams, Bobby Ports, TJ McConnell, Josh Green, Brandon Clarke, Robert Williams, Wendell Carter, Terance Mann, Larry Nance Jr, Matisse Thybulle, Jarred Vanderbilt, Tre Jones,

The other thing we're missing is that we can also employ a small-ball 5 at the right time. We can't do it the whole game, but it just so happens that we have a player, OG Anunoby, who can jump to the 5 in small spurts. Sorta like Draymond. It does depend on Thibs to be willing to do this, good team ball, and good depth at the forward spots.

If we can't get that stretch 5, then the solution is to keep cheaper 5s, use the small ball guy when needed, and then spend more elsewhere. For example, against the Sixers, we have to admit our centers were not as great as Embiid. However, we slowed him enough with Mitch, took advantage of the injury, and then used the rest of our team to get the win. If Boston played against the Sixers, they would have done the same. No way they can outplay Embiid at center, but they can still outplay the Sixers at other positions.

Also, we can probably take a page from Boston, who might not have a superstar 5, but still have Kornet or Horford as backups. Crazy cause Kornet used to be one of ours, and he's made a solid career for himself.

The solution is not to chase a stretch 5 who gets his face wrecked on defense...when people talk about stretch 5s, I feel like we have to be careful and not lump guys like Vuc or Olynyk in there. I'd rather have a rim runner rather than some softy center like that. It's hella crazy that the Mavs shot 83% at the rim or something ridiculous when Gobert was off the floor.

Disagree 100%
I think we need the big contract so that we don't have to part with players we like. We saved all that draft capital, I don't think we have to worry about cap filler. We can still take back 125% salary so if we trade Mitch, Deuce, Bogs (a shade over 40M) we can take back 50M.

I do think that at some point soon the Nets are going to give in and trade Bridges. Rockets are probably the most tempting option since they can release Nets own picks allowing them to actually bottom out.

Bridges can also make it difficult saying he would only re-sign with NY and making teams hesitate to take him on.
