Mavs made sure JT will not beat them.

Every time JT made a move, he was immediately doubled or triple teamed.

As long as JT continues to find the open man, Cs don't need him to score a lot.

I really liked what I saw from Horford, maybe knowing Porzingis would back him up meant he could go full speed. When he’s sharp there’s no weaknesses on the floor.

I hope the refs keep the whistle like this for the series, it felt like a good balance between physical and fair.

Anyone else yell, “Throw it down big fella” for that first big JB dunk? The Walton shirts are pretty sweet too.

Gave it to JB for his play in both halves. KP was absolutely amazing though. I don’t expect to play like his first quarter each game, but hope he figures out a little more than what the second half provided offensively for KP.

My fav was the guy saying that we only won cause KP got got.

Sure he came in and dominated but he only scored 20 points which is his season avg.

We don't need KP but he sure as **** makes it easier.

It allowed for Brown and Tatum to focus on Defense.

And it shows the teams growth, that Tatum and Brown only took what was available and they completly trusted White, KP, Jrue, Hauser, Pritch and Horford to get some.

Dallas dared the others to score, and they said "Sure, Thanks"

I'm super happy with the effort, overall. 3 more to go, don't mess up the net rating...

Get game 2 and then we're in business(a lots of work to be done).
Good assessment:

Last night was a fever dream. Aside from 10 in-game minutes, this team played some incredible ball… and JB and JT could have played even better. Amazing

Reminds me of the LeBron Heat years. He understood the talent around him and did not force things. Took what the defense gave him and made the right read. Now, he does need to cut down on the turnovers he had this game, but has generally been good these playoffs.

Obviously he's not the clear best player in the world like prime LeBron, but that mindset is similar. And it is working for this team

Tatum has shown so much growth and progress in not trying to force things. He didn’t score efficiently last night - 3/9 from inside the arc with only 2 FT attempts. But that’s fine because a bad shooting night won’t kill is if he’s still making the right plays for others and keeping the shot volume down rather than jacking up attempts. Last time we were in the Finals he was forcing a lot of shots. Some of it now could be us just having better offensive players around him rather than him actually doing things interesting tonality different, but there’s been some growth there.

Now, it does still show why I don’t think Tatum is a legit contender for “best player in the world”. Guys like Luka, Jokic, Lebron in his prime etc, can all withstand that defensive pressure, make plays for others and still get their own efficiently. That’s why they’ll all go down as the best of the best all time (at least offensively - Luka/Jokic will drop in all time rankings because of defense).

So there’s two different conversations here - the context of team goals and whether Tatum is good enough to be the best player on this team while they win. And then the context of his individual rankings and legacies. The way this team is built and as good as he is, I think he’s good enough for our team goals. I do see the lack of scoring efficiency as holding him back for his individual rankings, but I care less about that.

The Celtics will win the championship with or with KP.

They 9-1 without him already. Trust what your eyes tell you.

Mt Washington was apparently out of service last night for repairs. I thought PJ was the best defender in this series? No?

Read on Twitter

Mentioned it prior to this series, Indiana's high-octane random movement-heavy egalitarian offense is harder to defend for us than this Luka/Kyrie-centric one. Obviously it's just one game, we have to do this three more times, and Kidd in theory could make some adjustments but at their core, they rely on two guys to make plays for them. Basically, Mavs are the Cs in 2022 facing a team that don't have glaring holes defensively.

5th pair of teammates to put up 20p/6r/3b in a Finals game since NBA merger -- Sikma/DJ (1979), Malone/Dr.J (1983), Bynum/Gasol (2010), Curry/KD (2018).

I said from before playoffs started. Celtics won't face a elimination game all postseason. They probably won't even get to a game 6.

Celtics in 5.

Agree with this! Horford was great outside the paint. I think he has enough foot speed left to make some things challenging for Luka in particular on the perimeter. Loved the first play of the game was a drive on a close out for a dunk.

Just need to him fresh for later in the series.
