They had one?

I thought the gameplan was, lets just mail it in in every game.

I hope the refs keep the whistle like this for the series, it felt like a good balance between physical and fair.

What helps Horford is the long rest before the series started and the two days rest between almost every game. Luka benefits from that too, and so probably does Porzingis, but Horford really NEEDS it.

Don't worry. He'll keep playing till he is 42 to break the record as the oldest player to play the game
Until then his son will be ready (joke)...

What a great game. Jrue and White stiflingon defense and hitting timely shots. Tatum drawing defensive attention and doing his part to facilitate, also massive on defense and on the boards. Jaylen is finally turning into that second scorer who can take advantage of Tatum's gravity and make opposing teams pay. He's also made some great plays on help defense. He's always been a good man defender against wings and great at picking pockets and picking off entry passes but he's now doing non-meme things on defense.

Damn if Jaylen is even impressing BK you know he's playing the right way

What an incredible win. Great discipline all around to find the open shots that the Mavs were giving them instead of forcing things. Amazing how Porzingis didn't even miss a beat after all that time - dude stored up 31 days of energy to use during this finals series or something. And that defensive effort was otherworldly. Here's hoping they can keep things rolling in game 2!

Is it wrong to say it seems like Dallas needs PJ Washington to be their third most impactful player? I’m a PJ guy, I like him a lot but I have no idea what you do if you’re Dallas if that’s your win con.

Made me laugh when people were acting like irving couldn't be slowed down. Putting him in the same sentence as Luka with a straight face.

Not a surprise that Al can defend Luka.

Luka is not super fast.

What Al can't handle is guys like Maxey and Garland.

Like I said, if the opponent is not overwhelmingly big or extremely fast, the Cs will win almost every time.

Great job of limiting the lob dunks.

Boston seems to match up much better with Dallas than Minnesota because they don't play nearly much double bigs, which Luke and Kyrie took advantage of, and Jrue & DWhite are better than Conley on D.

I mean he looked gassed at some points but it didn't matter lol he just made everything and blocked everything on the other end. It was an out of body experience watching that. Bad thing is the last time I felt that way about a Celtics game was Game 1 4th quarter 2 years ago so lets hope this ends way better

Yeah it surprised me they tried to hunt Al mostly with Luka. I thought they'd go at Al with Kyrie and try to get DWhite on Luka

I think it was more the Cs than the Mavs.

JT was on Gafford, so if Gafford sets the pick, it will be JT switching on Luka.

Luka will shoot over you, not get past you.

That's easier to defend.

Donovan and Garland on Al was a nightmare for Al.

The Mavs offense are just a perfect fit for the Celtic defense.

Only way Mavs win is if Ky and Luka get 40 each.

Luka is not Bird. If they dared to put Hauser on Bird, Bird would have cooked him for 50.

hugepatsfan wrote:Tatum has shown so much growth and progress in not trying to force things. He didn’t score efficiently last night - 3/9 from inside the arc with only 2 FT attempts. But that’s fine because a bad shooting night won’t kill is if he’s still making the right plays for others and keeping the shot volume down rather than jacking up attempts. Last time we were in the Finals he was forcing a lot of shots. Some of it now could be us just having better offensive players around him rather than him actually doing things interesting tonality different, but there’s been some growth there.

Now, it does still show why I don’t think Tatum is a legit contender for “best player in the world”. Guys like Luka, Jokic, Lebron in his prime etc, can all withstand that defensive pressure, make plays for others and still get their own efficiently. That’s why they’ll all go down as the best of the best all time (at least offensively - Luka/Jokic will drop in all time rankings because of defense).

So there’s two different conversations here - the context of team goals and whether Tatum is good enough to be the best player on this team while they win. And then the context of his individual rankings and legacies. The way this team is built and as good as he is, I think he’s good enough for our team goals. I do see the lack of scoring efficiency as holding him back for his individual rankings, but I care less about that.

Mate, you are looking at it wrong.

Tatum only took 9 shots inside the arc, cause it is all he needed to.
Tatum is looking to win it all, not score 40 points.

Last night was a team game, confidence on everyone is very high, and everyone performed well.

6 guys in double digits and hauser just missing out.

Why did Tatum need to take an additional 10 shots when KP is scoring 20, Brown is scoring 20, White is cooking, Jrue is playing great, al is playing great, Hauser is making shots...No need for him to.

PLaymake and lock down on defense.

Tatum is not Luka, because Tatum plays the Game as a teammate. Tatum plays the Magic Johnson type of game. He will give whatever you need whenever you need it.

And that is great.

We are guarding Luka straight up and the Mavs are swarming Tatum. JT played a very mature team game.
