2023 8th rounder has been unhittable so far this season. What's absolutely wild is he's basically only spent one year as a pitcher. He was an infielder at Houston in 2020 as a freshman, then missed the next two seasons due to injury. He transferred to Indiana in 2023 and converted to a relief pitcher. He threw 37 innings total and it was enough to get drafted.

All told he's basically pitched about 60 innings between college and the pros.

Law updated his top 50 prospects. Only one Brewer, Quero, coming in at #11.

It's way past time to get Black up and Bauers down. I'd say Hicklen for Frelick too.

Shuckers are going have Misiorowski, Henderson, Yoho, Shane Smith, Blalock, Russell Smith, and Wichrowski on the staff. Bunch of dudes (wish Wichrowski was performing better).

It is realistic the Brewers could have 4 1st round picks next year, right? Their own, Comp Balance Group A pick, Adames compensation pick, and if Joey Ortiz wins ROY.

3 seems very likely to happen with an outside(but not impossible) chance at 4 w/Ortiz
Coach Drew: "Milwaukee has always been a team that I have been intrigued by. When we played them, they were a tough team for us to play. Although we did beat them all four times"

What a cool story this guy is.

Meeker touted a highly-successful career at North Allegheny High School, where he became the first freshman pitcher to pitch in a varsity game in program history, threw the school's first perfect game as a senior and helped the team to a WPIAL baseball championship the same season, before entering the college ranks. He played at Akron with former Wild Things Dom Iero and Josh Lapiana, Trinity HS product Joey Havrilak and current Pittsburgh Pirates' pitcher JT Brubaker before the school folded the baseball program. James transferred to Delaware, where he finished his collegiate career with three seasons with the Blue Hens. As a senior, he was 4-2 with a 3.23 ERA in 26 games (1 start).

He then came to the Wild Things, where he pitched in 19 regular-season games on the team's journey to the Frontier League playoffs and championship series appearance in 2018. That year, he posted a 3.94 ERA in 19 games across 29.2 innings of work. In 2019, Meeker pitched in 40 games and in 54 innings punched out 57 and posted a 3.17 ERA.

In 2020 during the COVID pod at Wild Things Park, Meeker didn't allow a run over 7.2 innings with 12 strikeouts in eight appearances for the Slammin' Sammies.

James leaves the Wild Things after an extraordinary start to the season. In 30 games, Meeker had worked 31.2 innings without giving up a run, had given up only 17 hits and walked 10 while fanning 43 batters. The 31.2 scoreless innings this season added to 2.1 innings to end 2019 scoreless, giving Meeker the franchise record for consecutive scoreless innings pitched.

Now he's off to the Brewers' farm system.

He's done really well out of the bullpen since signing. Have to figure he'll be sent to AAA soon enough.

Interesting story. Went completely undrafted last year and signed as an UDFA.

While he’s older at 23 years old, Brewers nondrafted free agent righty K.C. Hunt has made his mark against High-A hitters. He features a super-flat 93 mph four-seamer, his high-spin 85 mph bullet slider generates plus whiffs, and he has an above-average 79 mph downer curveball. In his four starts for High-A Wisconsin, the Mississippi State alum has a 38% strikeout rate and a Zebby-esque 1.7% walk rate, while also possessing the highest swinging strike rate among any High-A pitcher with 11+ innings. He’s another fascinating Brewer arm.

Young dudes in Carolina more than holding their own:

Cooper Pratt (19): 141 WRC+
Yophery Rodriguez (18): 133
Filippo Di Turi (18): 131
Juan Baez (19): 124

Not Chourio level, but really good.

They're starting to stretch him out and start him. Until this last week he was a reliever.

2nd start tonight: 6 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 0 H, 0 R, 8 K

:o

Get his ass to AA.

Black can’t do much more in AAA can he? Almost feel like need to bring him up and just get him AB’s at DH or 1B. I know defensively he is shaky, but may be time to give him an extended look. I would think there would be enough 1B/DH at bat’s between Hoskins, Sanchez, Black.

Would assume Dunn or Bauers would be the one to go. Bauers is probably the best defense option at 1B and his batting statcast is appealing, so kind of lean Dunn going.
