Interesting that if the pistons draft Clingan at 5, they might make Duren available for trade.

Pressure from being a Canadian on a Canadian team? RJ improved when he got here.
Exactly, after he had established himself in the NBA - not as a rookie
There is no added pressure with this team, there are no high expectations either. He'd be a bench big playing behind Jakob, in a city where people support him.

Kyshawn reminds me of a very poor man's Brandon Ingram with zero athleticism. Goerge needed to go backto college

I'd take either at #31.

If by legs you mean legitimacy of potential then Bub. If you mean good PR then Dadiet.

I really hope we take a 5 star recruit with length who dropped and only has a freshman year as body of work. Or just take Holmes. At #31 we are in diamond in rough territory and I like players who beast like Mogbo and PJ Hall and Dillon Jones. Waiting for the big surprise at 31.

Re: 2024 NBA DRAFT THREAD 5
was givony's latest big board posted?
16. Zach Edey | C | Purdue
7-5 | Age: 22.0 | Previously ranked: 16
Teams say Edey's range appears to be in the Nos. 9-19 range based on the workouts he has conducted and scheduled. He was with the Toronto Raptors this past week, will visit the Los Angeles Lakers, and is in the conversation at Memphis (9), Utah (10), Chicago (11), Oklahoma City (12), Portland (14) and Miami (15).
Several teams say Edey's productivity ranks him as a top-three prospect in this class according to their draft models -- ESPN's Kevin Pelton had him ranked No. 2 in his stats-only draft projections. He proved nearly unstoppable in the paint at the college level, drawing fouls, crashing the offensive glass and dismantling defenses with his screening and the incredible gravity he offers diving to the rim in pick-and-roll, helping Purdue shoot 40% from the 3-point line. -- Givony

We need a rim running big. I feel missi is a better fit than Edey in that regards.

I think it's kind of insane that he might be available at our pick. I wouldn't be surprised at all if he blows mock drafts away and goes top 10-late lotto. In fact, I'm kind of expecting it at this point.
There's obviously something I'm missing, because even if he's just a big stiff, he probably sticks around the league as a rotation/situational player. I'm having a hard time seeing him be worse than an Alex Len or a Plumlee, but he could be much much better.
Can just sign Mason Plumlee or if want shooting then Jalen Smith.
First, I like Jalen Smith, and think we should target him this summer.
However, I don't agree with all of the talk about just being able to go and grab player X to fill a hole. The Raptors will always have trouble luring players to play in Canada. I hate over paying. It's just so much easier if you can draft them and control them for the first bunch of years of their career.
If we somehow wind up with an extra second round pick (from trading down from 31?), I think we should take a shot at Cam Spencer. He's basically everything we wish GTJ was, (except he isn't taller - 6'3" barefoot). He is a great 3 pt shooter, a good passer, rebounder, will take it to the rack, is good in traffic, gets steals, has a 3.6 A/T ratio. Is a good connective player. Is OK on D. He'll become a very good 6th or 7th man for some team and have a long career in the league. That's a great deal in a 'crap' draft for a mid-late second rounder.
Of course, if we had an extra or later second round pick, I'd also like to take Mogbo.
If someone doesn't fall that we love at #19, I wonder if the Knicks would do #19 and #31 for #24, #25 and #38?

He's a scorer, you need another guy who is a hub on your team but when you need a bucket you give it to him and let him go to work. He's actually a lot closer to Jaylen Brown than Holland will ever be.
Whitmore had some impressive performances. The expectation is he'll remain a crap FT shooter and also have a crap AST:TO which is what will limit him like Brown. But he at least has some kind of potential to improve in those areas which is more than you can say about Brown.
Holland right now is looking like a more primitive version of Tari Eason whose development hopefully brings him to something around Eason's level by 21-22 y/o.
I’m not necessarily a fan of Holland, but I’m less of a fan of Whitmore. He doesn’t move me at all. There’s a reason he dropped like he did. NBA GM’s saw the lack of value in his game. He just puts up stats to put up stats. Wins don’t follow.
1. Holland and Whitmore are very different. Holland is more comparable to poor-mans Kuminga.
2. Whitmore fell due to knee issues. And then he missed 35 games in his first year with knee issues. So maybe those concerns were legit.
My dream picks are Carter at 19 and Scheierman at 31.

Missi tops out as Capela. Just take him from Atlanta as a salary dump. They might attach a 2nd rounder too.

Does anyone else think the lack of "top end talent" makes the draft even more intriguing?

I mean in a sense you're not wrong, it's the same reason why Jaylen Brown has cost the Celtics in the past quite often, he can be super inconsistent and inefficient at times. They have literally had to create a superteam around him just to win this year. But he has undeniable value around the league which is good enough for me because then you can use him as an asset, which I'm not sure how easily it will be to do with a guy like Isaiah Collier.

Yes this is the most difficult draft to evaluate I've ever seen. It also stems from shady organizations like GLI and the amount of INTL prospects with good measurables yet mediocre or poor feel/production which makes things very difficult combined with the amount of undersized guards who have shown themselves to be more competent basketball players. It's a very weird year. Consensus boards in hindsight are going to be absolutely loaded with mediocre players and busts.

Capela is also 30 and dependent on his athleticism. If you want someone like edey just sign jv with the mle

In a way. I think from a cap management standpoint it might be a good opportunity to fill up the bench

Re: 2024 NBA DRAFT THREAD 5
If someone doesn’t fall (which should happen though) I think Ajay Mitchell is probably my top choice for the DET pick.
Reminds me a lot Nembhard (who our FO liked) and I think his bball IQ will be a good fit for Dario’s offence. Other than that personally I like Flowers more than Dadiet. But I think there will end up being a player we didn’t expect to be there at 31 that we should take. But I like Mitchell more than Simpson personally if we’re attempting to take a backup PG with 31.
