Re: PC Board OT Thread Take 4 [No Politics]
Anybody else's interest in the current NBA drop off in the past few years? It's actually watching sports in general for me (aside from maybe football). When you're older than all but a handful of players in the league, it doesn't feel the same -- especially when I've always been more of a player fan of superstars than a team fan.
Now that's the difference between first and last place.

Re: PC Board OT Thread Take 4 [No Politics]
RIP to Bill Walton.
My introduction to Bill Walton was probably in the 2000 season when he and Steve "Snapper" Jones would hilariously banter on commentary during a Sunday afternoon NBC game. I didn't even know he had been an all-time great player at the time.
The more I learned about him, the more awesome he became. UCLA legend. Blazermania. Stepping into the historic Boston Celtic lineage of being a great Sixth Man on a title team in 1986. Overcoming a stutter to become a national broadcast announcer and overall eloquent speaker.
Bill was the man!

May Big Red rest easy, this one is a devastating one to fathom.
One of the greatest and kindest basketball legacies of all time undoubtedly, and an even greater commentator & ambassador for basketball than a player - which is saying a whole lot.

I have not experienced a drop off but what you described above is one possible con of having a team sport followed by player fans not team fans. When you're primarily a players fan there is no guarantee that there will be a next superstar you'll fall for.

That's just life. You change and grow and sometimes lose interest in certain hobbies. At some point in the future you may find more value or interest in the hobby, but this is fairly common.
If you are losing interest in everything, that's likely depression.

I have some other interests. Have gotten into powerlifting as a hobby. But yeah, I think it hits the nail on the head.
The league today is objectively more talented than ever, and I like the general playstyle evolution, but older games do it more for me.
I have had a bit of a love-hate relationship with 'Bron the last few years, but when he goes, it's a different league.
Now that's the difference between first and last place.

Anyhow miss the crew here. I'll try and post more often when work is less busy (and not troll about Kobe!).

It happens and has happened as of lately for new threads, with one page. Ones with multiple pages (and some others, like this) have worked just fine w.r.t. accessibility

Not sure when I became a RealGM but to see that under my username is surreal. 13 years is a LONG time to be on a forum lmao.
Unfortunately it feels like this board (as most forums in general) seems to be slowly dying, getting barely one page of discussion per Finals game in the Playoffs thread is not a good sign.
I will always treasure the first five years or so of being on here when I was posting the most frequently, completely transformed my knowledge of the game.

Tbh I am losing interest in the current league as well somewhat.
I became a fan in 2007-08 and was basically hooked for the next decade plus. Kobe was and will always be my favorite player (plus Nash/Dirk/Pau/Odom etc) but the group I truly spent the most time following was LeBron/CP3/Durant/Russ/Harden/Curry etc, and now that they're mostly on their way out it's just not the same for me.
I still follow it tangentially, and that interest ramps up during the Playoffs, but given the changing of the guard I'm having a hard time staying as invested as I was even five years ago.
I wonder if that's how it goes with every generation: if people who grew up watching in the 90s kind of lost the love as well once Jordan/Hakeem/Barkley etc retired.

Re: PC Board OT Thread Take 4 [No Politics]
I don't doubt there are people who were MJ stanning 90s basketball fans that found themselves going through the motions with NBA in mid 2000s between their entering middle age and watching these Spurs/Nets and Spurs/Pistons type finals
I can't really judge myself because personally I'm a shell personally and I know it's affected my enjoyment of other things as well. But I think compounding the effect to me is that I don't get Gen Z-ers, I feel like they're completley differently psychologically than the previous generation, this leads to people who even if they're into it, do in a way that it's hard to connect with or relate to. They don't use RealGM cause they're just not a match emotionally/psychologically/energy wise with us in my opinion. My theory would be this makes the following of pop culture events like sports or movies just a little bit less fun, it's difficult to see what the NBA looks like through the eyes of people where the only superstars they've known is the Jokic/Giannis/etc. generation, etc.

Re: PC Board OT Thread Take 4 [No Politics]
Rest in peace to Jerry West.
It’s really sad to realize that some of the game’s most prominent pioneers are at that age now, where this unfortunate news isn’t surprising.
It’s all the more hard to fathom considering how both Bills and West represented the NBA as proud alumni and happy, positive minded ambassadors for all the years after they retired as players.
