Interesting to tie-in MEM to the discussions and them wanting to get up to #3.
If Nets trade Bridges to HOU and HOU trades #3 to MEM, is there anything MEM has that we want as centerpiece for Bridges trade? could nets get 1 of Ja / Bane ? both a few years younger than Bridges and under contract for 4/5 years respectively if MEM is looking to move one of them i think id be all over that.
Smart has 2 years left and would be an interesting identity player addition, though he probably fits better with Bridges still a Net. maybe there's a smaller scale deal where nets trade DFS to HOU, HOU trades #3 to MEM for #9 to get DFS (and more?), and MEM trades Smart to Nets? So Nets basically convert DFS into Smart.

related report - “League sources say the Rockets have had conversation with the Grizzlies about trading down from this pick, and that the Rockets hold out hope that the Nets would be willing to move Mikal Bridges for it. But those same sources say the Nets, on the contrary, prefer to add pieces around Bridges.”

Re: Official ‘24-25 Off-season Thread
I dont mind building around Bridges. But I don't want to see any 2028 and beyond stuff moved. Seems like Trae and Garland are some of the more rumored and popular names. Would really love to get that dynamic PG that the offense can run through.
But totally honestly, I don't mind at this point doing a full rebuild. Trade the whole farm. A few months back I was in the "hold Bridges camp". But maybe it's time to throw in the towel and build toward 3 years from now.
It would be fun to root with a team of nothings with all our picks back. At least we'd have a clear direction. I had no problem watching the 2009-10 era Nets, before we traded them all for DWill and Wallace... lol

Man they won’t give up the ghost lol.
I’ll say this much though, I wouldn’t be mad at all with a 4 deal such as the following:
BK sends:
‘27 Suns pick
‘27 Philly pick
DFS or Cam J
BK receives:
9th overall pick
‘25 swap right returned with option to defer to receiving ‘26 pick back
Luke Kennard
Memphis sends:
9th overall
Future 1st
Luke Kennard
Memphis receives:
3rd overall
Harrison Barnes
Houston sends:
3rd overall
BK pick as described above
Houston receives:
13th overall
Future Memphis 1st
‘27 Philly 1st
‘27 Suns pick
Sacto sends:
13th overall
Harrison Barnes
Sacto receives:
Cam J or DFS
Then my likely target is Devin Carter or Jared McCain.

I thought they were going to get up into the top 10-15 in 2017, then they ended up snagging allen. thought the same last year, then they snagged clowney.
at this point im just reserved to the fact that marks is really good at the draft, will probably add a pick thriftily somehow, and probably get a solid player. DFS to SAC or LAL would be my guess.

Re: Official ‘24-25 Off-season Thread
Nets are simply not going to rebuild right now. They got embarrassed with the KD/Kyrie stuff.
The Knicks have completely taken over the city. They want to get back into the market.
This isn't Detroit. We can't just suck for the next 4 years and let other fanbases take over our arena. We may never recover.

While KD/Kyrie deserve a huge portion of blame, so does management. Nash was not the right guy for the job and the roster construction was abysmal following the 20-21 campaign. In 20-21, we had shooters galore on this team and in 21-22, we ended up with Bembry/Carter who couldn't shoot a three for ****. I liked the Mills signing at the time but keeping Green and Shamet around for three point shooting was important. I liked the roster better in 22-23 by surrounding KD/Kyrie with some decent shooting.

yup. No matter what we're thinking here as what's the best move for the franchise, seems like Tsai and company are dead set on being relevant again. I just hope we don't overpay with valuable Suns picks. And at the same time, find a way to maximize value with some of these guys that won't be around very long (DFS, Simmons, etc.)

Agreed that Nash was a poor hire. But its who Durant wanted at the time. I don't think the roster construction was the issue.
The 22 team was just a mess chemistry wise because of all the drama.

To see Boston absolutely cook Dallas like that, and to understand that Dallas can still win this series, then think about how Dallas and Boston basically made food out of their first three rounds against some legit teams, especially out West… we are so far away from actual contention… if the picks returned offer is there, they really need to accept.

But the East is so weak I disagree. Like if we added Mitchell and good coaching. Are the Knicks or Pacers really better?
Boston is good but not great. And the West is just a **** show every year anyway.
Rebuild just isn't happening when youre the 2nd fiddle in a city like NYC. Clippers won't do it either.

Debatable and understood. If Boston has injuries, the East is almost perpetually wide open.

Shenanigans laddie!

$hitshow?
I think you mean bloodbath.

And that’s one of the reasons it’s guaranteed both teams will forever remain second fiddle.

Assuming we go for a lead guard(specifically one of those talked about ad naseum here)and it cost something like ‘25, ‘27 Phoenix picks, second best of ‘29 picks, the Cams and Schröder, how about Jerami Grant for Ben Simmons as a follow up move?

Nash was a Marks hire, this was already confirmed. KD was just on board with it; while 22 was a **** show for the most part, the Nets started steam rolling teams again in November-December into January before the debacle of KD's injury( which Jimmy Butler caused) and then followed soon by Kyrie asking out. The best chance we had to win a ring was in 21 until Giannis purposely shoved his foot under Kyrie.

Re: Official ‘24-25 Off-season Thread
Bill Simmons had a good segment this week on the Hawks, the more I think about it they/Trae are probably the best trade fit for Nets if Mitchell ends up sticking in CLE. Need to minimize the amount of PHO picks in deal, but I think that's a good trade partner.
He had a good Trae trade to Miami that was basically built on Herro/Robinson + picks, and I could totally see Trae as a Heat player, but I'm pretty sure that's close to impossible financially for Miami unless they can find a 3rd team for Robinson and/or Herro.

Don't totally hate it but ghosts of crash going over hill at age 30 scare me there.
Assuming Simmons doesn't have any positive value, I'd probably keep him if Nets get a lead guard for a deadline deal if the team is playing well enough to justify it. It is not impossible to foresee KD or PG3 being available if those teams crash, as examples.

Is it crazy to think there might be a scenario out there where we can offload Simmons before the deadline?
It'd have to be for a player who is non going to resign and/or a team that's ready to jump in the gutter and wants to scoop some picks up in the process. And of course we'd have to attach picks to Ben.
But maybe it's best to invest those picks in a better constructed deal and just let Simmons expire the year out.
God I hate Simmons. Might take the cake for my most despised Nets player ever.

He's sort of like the Russ contract a few years ago. The Lakers tried to move his 47m forever, couldnt, but at deadline turned it into DLo, Beasley, Vanderbilt. By the deadline there will always be teams looking to move off contracts and willing to take back an expiring, especially if they get a pick or two in the deal.
