Everybody we want is on the board. We eagerly anticipate the call.

This was back in January right? People could have maybe theorized he was a 2nd round pick back then. Unless I hear him working out for us, they ain't picking him.

Re: **NBA Draft Discussion 2024**
Holland is intriguing but too much of a project for the Heat in the first round. Maybe if they are lucky to get another pick and get him. fine. its looking like Collier because Ware might not be there with the recent attention he is getting. Mogbo 2nd round for sure though, we cant mess that up.
1. Herro 2. Bol Bol 3. Seko 4. Bruno
unless we trade up for Barrett or trade down for PJ Washington

I just don’t see it with Ware. On paper, yes, but Spo would never. He doesn’t strike me as a Heat guy at all.
I think if Carter is on the board, he’s a clear Heat choice. Fits a need, ready to play, son of a Heat JAG and Spo would absolute froth.
Otherwise it would be between who is available between Topic/Collier/McCain would be my guess. I really think they’ll want McCain. Elite spacing, ability to play off and on ball, and ability to play both backcourt roles makes him more versatile than Collier or Topic IMO.
My choice would still be Niko though if all 3 are on the board. Highest ceiling to me.

I hope being Anthony Carter's kid isn't a selling point.

The Ringer lastest mock projects us to take Terrence Shannon Jr in the second round - which I could se making sense.
For the "get help now" crowed - this kid a day 1 ready to go bucket getter. He would average double digits scoring as a rookie no problem IMO, given Spo gives him minutes. He's an aggressive driver and scorer which we really need.
He's a old rookie at 23YO and can't pass much, but I like the size and athleticism and versatility on offense.
But then again with his legal thing...maybe he's not even a real option

If a rookie 2nd rounder is getting minutes, we've got real serious problems.

21 minutes per as a rookie. We all liked seeing him, and he was helpful on a team that was 3rd seed in the East.

Have we worked out McCain or Topic yet?

Topic would also have the most value if later packaged in a trade for a marquee player.

Re: **NBA Draft Discussion 2024**
As everyone gets inundated with more and more draft tidbits and noise in the weeks leading up to the draft, I do think it remains important to highlight and remember how much the age of the prospect should impact the lens through which the prospect is assessed. All Freshmen should get some benefit of the doubt with stats relative to upperclassmen. The youngest freshmen should get even more benefit of doubt as the physical improvement and technical improvement path that they have in front of them usually leaves a lot of untapped potential (especially for those with more athletic tools and size)
An exercise I value with young prospects is looking at their season splits. If a player shows clear growth and development over the back half/third of their season then that's a great indicator of a strong rate of development. Pair great physical tools with youth and an indicator for growth and development and you have a shot at a star trajectory in the NBA.
So, below I've provided the following for 4 young prospects that are likely to be on Miami's radar for the 15th pick:
- Draft age
- Season averages
- Averages from last leg of the season (last 10 games)
RON HOLLAND [18.95 on draft day]
Season Stats: 19.5 ppg / 46% FG / 24% 3PT (3.3 3PA) / 72.8% FT / 2.9 AST / 3.6 TO / 6.7 REB / 2.3 STL / 0.9 BLK
Last 10 Games: 22.7 ppg / 49% FG / 28.5% 3PT (3.5 3PA) / 73.6% FT / 3.7 AST / 2.8 TO / 7.1 REB / 2.4 STL / 0.8 BLK
ISAIAH COLLIER [19.7 on draft day]
Season Stats: 16.3 ppg / 49% FG / 33.8% 3PT (3 3PA) / 67.3% FT / 4.3 AST / 3.3 TO / 2.9 REB / 1.5 STL / 0.2 BLK
Last 11 Games: 17.6 ppg / 47.2% FG / 37.5% 3PT (2.9 3PA) / 68.5% FT / 4.5 AST / 2.8 TO / 3.3 REB / 1.8 STL / 0.3 BLK
BUB CARRINGTON [18.92 on draft day]
Season Stats: 13.8 ppg / 41.2% FG / 32.2% 3PT (6.1 3PA) / 78.5% FT / 4.1 AST / 1.9 TO / 5.2 REB / 0.6 STL / 0.2 BLK
Last 10 Games: 14.3 ppg / 44.7% FG / 40.3% 3PT (6.2 3PA) / 67% FT / 4 AST / 2.1 TO / 5.2 REB / 0.7 STL / 0.1 BLK
JARED MCCAIN [20.3 on draft day]
Season Stats: 14.3 ppg / 46.2% FG / 41.4% 3PT (5.8 3PA) / 88.5% FT / 1.9 AST / 1.3 TO / 5 REB / 1.1 STL / 0.1 BLK
Last 10 games: 16.3 ppg / 47.1% FG / 44.4% 3PT (6.3 3PA) / 94.5% FT / 2.1 AST / 1.6 TO / 5.3 REB / 1 STL / 0.2 BLK

When I take a deep dive into a player, my process is to look at full game tape versus top defensive teams, top teams and vs high level players at their position.

There are littered throughout his game tape. Real stuff that needs to get sorted out and due diligence needs to determine he's hungry to do so and has awareness to do so. Potential Christian Wood issues.
I'm def glad that the Heat are working out Ware as his talent is undeniable. That one-on-one in person time paired with frank testimony from Mike Woodson and Don MacLean should all be invaluable.

Love it--More than just a potential good defender. Carter is a potential difference maker on defense. The versatility of his offensive upside is def up for debate, tho. I like the potential Caruso comparison.

You looking at a player more like Collin Sexton. I dont know what he can do behind closed doors, but his style of play at providence is a high energy small shooting guard like Sexton. Watching him versus Netwon and Uconn, Carter was out of breath after 5 mins. Coaches had to take him out so he can catch some wind, he uses up so much energy when he plays. Whe Utah put Sexton at shooting guard that is when his game took off. Might be the same for Carter.

I see what you mean as he def has more of a SG game than a PG. Fortunately he has the plus wingspan (and a couple inches in height on Sexton) that gives him a little more positional versatility than Sexton--especially defensively. I think Sexton has a more dynamic on-ball game than I expect Carter to have.
Josh Hart is another player type that Carter should be similar to in the NBA
