Not only do the Raptors have the best player in the series BY FAR as 2019 Kawhi >>> Tatum, they also had the much better overall depth. The whole league is drooling over OG now and he didn't even play a single minute in the entire playoff run during a season that had numerous top heavy teams.

Bucks and Sixers (Butler/Embiid/Simmons/Reddick/Harris) were stacked that year and people forget that the Warriors were actually favored to win the finals even with the Durant injury. Raptors were 1 non timeout call from Nurse away from winning that series in 5 games.

Lowry/ Fred
Green/ Norm
Kawhi/ OG
Siakam/ Ibaka
Gasol/ Ibaka

The most important part was that the Raptors had an overall rating of 99 in 2K that year :)

Raptors were exceptionally deep that year. Don't forget, they had the #2 record in the conference next year even without Kawhi.
I think Raptors win, their defense was elite as well and they had the better closer in Kawhi.

2023/24 Celtics vs 2018/19 Raptors

Celtics -
64 Wins
11.6 net rating for the regular season (equal 3rd all time)
11.4 net rating for the playoffs (7th all time)

Raptors -
58 Wins
5.8 net rating for the regular season
5.6 net rating for the playoffs

It’s not close.
Also, out of all the key players for both teams that were/are in their prime, the Raptors had 1 (Kawhi), Celtics have 4 (Tatum, Brown, Porzingis, White).

If you break it down by position I think Kawhi over Brown is the only advantage for Toronto. Depth might have been a bit better but Horford/ Hauser / Pritchard isn’t a huge downgrade. OG now is not the same as OG then.

Raptors are very deep, wreck havoc on defense and have the best player by miles. A player that can score like Luka and defend like Pippen? It’s over.

Considering KP is usually injured, it would be too much for Boston. Raptors in 6.

Replace Tatum with Pierce and it’s Celtics in 7.

I give TOR the edge because of Kawhi. But on TOR’s depth, important to establish that FVV and OG were not the players they grew to be then. FVV wouldn’t make an all star team until 3 years later. OG’s game has expanded a ton. Siakam and Norm grew their games as well.

Raps had a lot of young players who have gone to grow their games, but it’s inaccurate to just assume that they were their fully developed selves sitting on the bench there. Again, I still take TOR because of Kawhi but important to call that out.

Maybe but if you match up each player by position and look at the overall team stats you can’t really make a sane argument that 2018-19 Toronto is better than the 2023-24 Cs….assuming of course they win the finals this year.

Raptors had much more challenging competition and the East was not plagued with injuries as it was this season.

I know people hate the Celtics but legitimately comical to pick that Raptors squad over this historically good Celtics team.

White > Lowery
Jrue > Green
Kawhi> Brown
Tatum > Siakam
Porzingis (if healthy) > Gasol
Horford and IBaka are pretty close.
Pritchard and Vanfleet are pretty close
Hauser and OG are pretty close.
Toronto played a deeper bench with Powell, Brissett, Kornet and Tillman have shown they are capable of called upon.

Would be close. Kawhi was playing out his mind. 7 games for sure

Bird would have won 4 rings with that team, in this weak ass era of basketball.

Of course I can. This Celtics team is great but the Raptors had better depth, defense AND the best player by far in the series. Raptors in 6.

LOL what a homer comparison. Fred - Prichard and OG - Hauser are close in what world? 2019 Kawhi >>>> Brown.

WAHHH

You don’t like when Celtics fans take off their green glasses?

I strongly believe if you replace Tatum with an actual star that can take over, like Pierce, Celtics take the series.
